summary Meaning and The Digital Universe: The conference topic encourages creative and critical inquiries about the digital universe and its capacity of representing real, unreal, imaginative, sensitive, or daily realities. Of particular interest is how these new and word-less realms allow for the possibility of contemporary man to consider the production of meaning.

title Productive 3D Building Modeling
source Architecture in the Network Society [22nd eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 0-9541183-2-4] Copenhagen (Denmark) 15-18 September 2004, pp. 218-221
summary There are some alternatives to do 3D digital building models. One of them is realized by using 3D blocks with additional information to the graphic content. This kind of 3D blocks is named „blocks with attributes“. These models allow an easy way of 2D plans generation and an easy calculation of material quantities involved in the project. Author claims to divulgate this practice introducing it at the first steps in architectural studies.

title Cidades virtuais: projetos de aprendizagem em arquitetura e urbanismo [Virtual Cities: Architecture and Urbanism Learning Projects]
source SIGraDi 2004 - [Proceedings of the 8th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Porte Alegre - Brasil 10-12 november 2004
summary This paper discuss partial findings concerning academic research on Virtual Cities and Virtual Learning Environments, applied to the learning process in Architecture and Urbanism. We approach the paradigmatic shift on the conception of space and time, related to Informational Technology in the global context (WWW). This implies changes in the notion of city, space and place within the network society, which are raw material for architects. We use case study methodology to build partial digital models of the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, based on basic 3D modelling and GIS technology. They composed computer places that are our digital base for the future development of virtual cities. They are operated as learning objects by the community of students and teachers, within Virtual Learning Environments (AVA). We argue that this process might enhance the development of autonomy, solidarity and cooperation, which are relevant cognitive abilities to the profile of young architects.

title Formal investigation and explorations in the contemporary city
source SIGraDi 2005 - [Proceedings of the 9th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Lima - Peru 21-24 november 2005, vol. 2, pp. 570-574
summary The dynamics of the city today, their conceptual changes and physical migrations place us in front of an indicial rather than symbolic phenomenology where the visuality of the of the image requires to rethink the conceptual categories for the projectual action. As architects, professors and investigators we find ourselves in front of the necessity to focus from the environment of the investigations of the coetaneous city, the system of the diverse morphologic assemblies of the urban condition, the different intervening graphologic entities and the textualities of the image in the configuration of the urbanity. It is proposed to give continuity to the presentations of investigative short essays of Sigradi 2003 and inquires of the communicational sense approached in 2004, introducing in this event schemes of investigation-teaching, exhibiting proposals of objects and designs in urban environment of the Laboratory of Formal Explorations, emphasizing the revaluation of the areas of obsolescence, the insertion of the novel outdoor public spaces and new emergent forms of the dispersion and territorial decentralization." title ARCHICAD - BEST PRACTICE: THE VIRTUAL BUILDING™ REVEALED
source Springer Publishers, Vienna/NewYork (ISBN 3-211-40755-3)
summary ArchiCAD has been on the market since 1984 and has firmly established itself among the available CAD software packages. The number of ArchiCAD users continues to increase and has already exceeded 100.000 by far. Continuous product development has broadened the program’s possible spectrum of work applications. Therefore, this book provides comprehensive (background) information and descriptions of the many tools, functions and processes, that explain and document their many practical, research and educational uses.
