title Diseño metodológico en investigación del espacio urbano basado en el registro sonoro. Caso de estudio: Plaza de la independencia, ciudad de Concepción. [Methodological design for urban space research based on sound recording. Case study: Plaza de la Independencia, Concepción.]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.223-230
summary This work reports the results of applying phenomenological methods during the final stage of architecture studies in Universidad del Bío-Bío. The introduced case study delves in the importance of designing research methodologies that promote interdisciplinary studies to achieve an integrated view of urban phenomena. In this work, we advance the understanding of the urban space by exploring graphic resources and digital recordings to characterize the soundscape of “Plaza de la Independencia” in the city of Concepción, Chile. Our findings focus on the relationship between the urban environment, the activities that take place and the sounds recorded in the urban space.
keywords Architecture education, phenomenology, soundscape.

title Dichotomy between Digital Project and Real Project Execution
source Architecture in Computro [26th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-7-2] Antwerpen (Belgium) 17-20 September 2008, pp. 587-592
summary This paper relates the experience of the author in finding digital tools to generate diversity of results in the design process of one project, aiming to generate base tools developed in the form of script codes, that may operate in diverse fields of action reacting to the diverse variables characteristics of each place, The development of the script is what allows this to happen.

title Architecture of Structural Membrane in Chile
source Architecture in Computro [26th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-7-2] Antwerpen (Belgium) 17-20 September 2008, pp. 593-600
summary The present paper deals with the theoretical and technical reflection on basic structural principles that allow the generation and controlling of architectural complexity of double curvature surfaces.Despite the difficulties in designing and building such complex forms, Chile has several examples that were developed and built during the first half of the twentieth century. All of them were developed with local building technologies which studied the implementation of experimental and simple materials with innovative mounting techniques. All of them explored new structural concepts generating great interest of architectural spaces for religious cult, housing and civil works. The research objective of this work deals with the recognition and analysis with contemporary modelling and simulation tools that can reveal the type of relationship that occurs between the initial conception of the architectural shape and membranous structural surfaces. Their curvature and sleekness generated innovative structural spaces that contain an architectural envelope with clear and revealing expression of the acting forces.

title LA MODELACIÓN Y SIMULACIÓN ENERGÉTICO-AMBIENTAL COMO HERRAMIENTA DE REDISEÑO ARQUITECTÓNICO (The Modeling and Simulation of a Power-Based Environment Tool of Architectural Redesign)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 83-85
summary The aim of this paper is to explore the potential of building simulation programs as an evaluation and redesign tool. The research work consisted on the evaluation of thermal comfort in three low cost houses situated on different climatic zones of Chile, in order to create a matrix of appropriate redesign strategies with an adequate analysis of cost and benefits. Conclusions stressed out that building simulations programs are a useful tool for evaluating building performance, but detailed programs are still unfriendly to use widely by architects.
