title A influência de Frank Lloyd Wright sobre João Batista Vilanova Artigas – uma análise formal [The Influence of Frank Lloyd Wright on João Batista Vilanova Artigas - A Formal Analysis]
source SIGraDi 2009 - Proceedings of the 13th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, Sao Paulo, Brazil, November 16-18, 2009
summary This study intends to propose a new use of the shape grammar: verify the influence of a certain architect’s language over another architect’s language. Some Brazilian modern architecture critics suggest the existence of an influence of Wright’s prairie houses over Artigas’ early work, but the methods used to reach to this conclusion are always empirical and not very objective. The present work aims to confirm this influence in a more rational manner, comparing Wright’s prairie houses grammar developed by Koning and Eizenberg (1981) to Artigas’ first phase grammar that will developed in this work.

title Sloping Façade Buildings in Brazilian Modern Architecture
source Architecture in Computro [26th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-7-2] Antwerpen (Belgium) 17-20 September 2008, pp. 61-68
summary Sloping façade buildings have been present throughout XXth century architecture, for different programs and in different countries. One of the first architects to use sloping façades was probably Frank Lloyd Wright, two early examples being Taliesin West (1937) and the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel at Florida Southern College (1938-41). In Brazilian Modern architecture sloping façades soon became a recurrent solution, the earlier examples being produced by architects Oscar Niemeyer, João V. Artigas and Affonso E. Reidy, possibly influenced by FLW, as suggested by Irigoyen (2002). The present research proposes that these buildings may have influenced other architects in Brazil and abroad. In order to confirm this hypothesis, a design process was modelled and a shape grammar was developed to describe a small corpus of buildings designed by these three architects in the 1940´s and 1950´s.

title Epistemological basis to a contemporary approach for design teaching. The digital media, the reflective professional and the paradigm shift
source SIGRADI 2015 [Proceedings of the 19th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - vol. 2 - ISBN: 978-85-8039-133-6] Florianópolis, SC, Brasil 23-27 November 2015, pp. 602-608.
summary We now live on the digital era. Technological innovations don’t stop to come to light, and our society little by little become more permeable and sensible to the present-day. The architect who refuses to just repeat architecture styles enters in a avant-garde position and gives intellectual impulses towards finding through your work a original proposal that will answer in fact the demands of a society that is correlate with your present-time. How to teach him to deal with the novel situations of the digital era and the paradigms to be used as basis and how should be the new pedagogical structure?

title A RESTITUIÇÃO VIRTUAL TRIDIMENSIONAL DE UM DOS PRÉDIOS QUE COMPÕEM O ENTORNO DA PRAÇA DA MATRIZ DE PORTO ALEGRE - UM EXEMPLO PARA O ESTUDO DA EVOLUÇÃO URBANA DA PRAÇA (The Virtual Restitution of One of the Buildings that Constitute the Surroundings of "Matriz" Square in Porto Alegre - An Example for the Study of the Square Urban Evolution)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 46-48
summary This work is a virtual reconstruction of a building called “Palácio Provisório”, that take place in Marechal Deodoro Square in Porto Alegre City, Brazil. It will be four virtual 3D model each of one representing a historical phase of the building. The objective of this work is to start studying the urban evolution of Marechal Deodoro Square by using graphical computation resources to reconstruct the various historical phases of the square. This study is a part of doctoral thesis of the author which is in development in the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia – Spain.
