summary This paper presents conceptual and theoretical basis, methodological processes, and ongoing developments for the research work done within the Design and Agonism group at the Department of Design of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Chile. summary Innovation in digital manufacturing should not be impetuously assimilated, in particular in developing countries. They should not be rejected either, regarding them as unattainable. Industrial design knowledge establishes criteria to select and take advantage of the differential resources that these technologies provide to the project activity. Beyond the arguments that support and oppose digital manufacturing systems, the appropriation process progresses without definite information of the ways in which they are used by design studios and industries. Within the framework of a research project we developed a survey in order to obtain an outlook of the incorporation of these technologies in our country.

summary The digital world-society's relationship effects and consequences takes form in the architecture, meanwhile the digital mediating design process's participation and constitute an adaptation formal attribute. Itself consequences are difference answers and processing methods corresponding the digital standard used, the work's context side influence and the singular digital environment to ascribe. There are different adaptation ways to consider by the digital environment, thought models, project process types and formal characteristics to conceive four patterns: carnal, cultural, intellectual and practical. This possible practice projection map displays the formal language renewal range and the discipline's values management, and try to bring some variety emergent proposal's comprehension.
