summary The aim of this paper is to design a public facilitie using both digital manufacture and rapid prototyping design methods. These new technologies have been used in product design development by some ways: helping in the comprehension of complex geometries; used as tools for analyzing the design process, thus avoiding errors in the project. The analysis were carried out using virtual simulation tests and physical prototype in reduced scale. The prototype was manufactured using the 3D printer V-Flash in the Virtual Design Laboratory – UFRGS, where positive and negatives aspects were identified and described.

summary To ensure access to sunlight in urban planning, specialized software is available. Mainly used in the initial stages, these tools allow the study of the environmental performance of the proposal. However, neighborhood impact is seen as a secondary aspect, usually evaluated with GIS tools, simulating pre-existing or proposed situations. However, visual programming tools allow, data processing in addition to parametric modeling, streamlining the process of analysis of architectural and urban pre-existences and proposals. From a case study, we present a methodology that uses these tools to demonstrate the loss of daylight performance of open spaces due to urban densification.

summary The idea of spatiality is changing with the explosion of concrete boundaries in this age; this new idea is between the limited space and the continuum space. This paper shows a critical reading of three architectural drawings – ‘Micromegas’ (Daniel Libeskind), ‘The Block’ (Bernard Tschumi) and ‘The World’ (Zaha Hadid); the objective is discussing an idea of space impressed in these drawings, and the relationships with digital realm too. The base of this discussion is in Vidler´s Warped Space and Virilio´s Lost Dimension, searching to understand characteristics and influences that help the construction of this idea of space.

summary Natural illumination can be considered as one of the major conditioner of the architectonical project, thus it demands an evaluation of it in the proposed architectonical object. Such evaluation can be achieved with graphic representations produced from computational simulations. However, those representations, images usually, deal with the difficulty to provide a better spatial comprehension since they do not allow people to visualize the tri-dimensional space due to it is a static and bi-dimensional representation. Once the interacting possibility can favour the observer spatial comprehension, this possibility was analyzed, creating a VRML environment to present a natural illumination simulation.

summary This paper tries to demonstrate, from a theoretical argumentation, that the city landscape is constantly changing. Due to that, studies and discussions about the future consequences of those changes became necessary. So it's written a study where the LRVChat3D tool was used to create a Cooperative Virtual Environment. It allows, from a virtual environment in VRML, the perception and analysis of a Florianópolis landscape, as well as discussions about the future consequences of the probable changes that happened in this place.

summary The main objective of this research is to determine through the use of a CAD-BIM system, the emission of CO2 in the pre-operational phase of construction. Based on a case study in quantitative analysis of materials and the BIM system, it was possible to quantify the amount of CO2 emitted during the pre-operational life cycle of a building. By using this feature you can provide, before the begining of construction, the total CO2 that will released to the environment, and other analysis.

summary O aumento da produção de materiais didáticos em formato digital configura a necessidade de disponibilizar sistemas de catalogação para facilitar mecanismos de busca e recuperação dos materiais gerados. Em contextos de educação a distância, principalmente quando se trabalha com o conceito de objetos de aprendizagem, este problema pode adquirir maiores proporções, no sentido de que um mesmo material pode se decompor em várias partes, cada uma delas devendo ser indexada e ainda demonstrar as conexões inicialmente determinadas. Frente a isto, este trabalho experimenta configurar uma metodologia para a identificação de uma taxonomia que abarque um conhecimento específico, capaz de descrever e conectar objetos de aprendizagem, em diferentes níveis de granularidade e advindos de diversas abordagens. A metodologia se apóia em análises de materiais didáticos, que tratem de temas convergentes, a partir da abordagem de estruturas de saber. Através de mapas conceituais são explicitadas as estruturas de cada material, destacando-se palavras chaves capazes de delimitar uma taxonomia que no conjunto dos materiais pode ser ampliada e representar uma ampla estrutura capaz de responder às questões específicas do saber tratado. Os resultados, ainda que parciais, delimitam uma rede conceitual que expressa tais materiais, e as suas interconexões, visando facilitar sua acessibilidade, na Internet, a partir da delimitação de uma taxonomia para o domínio do conhecimento tratado.

summary Geometric knowledge increases the memory of the architect, which is formed dynamically, from new experiences on the comprehension of shape. Such process suggests the acquisition of a specific vocabulary for describing shape. With the aim of recognizing a wide geometrical and architectural terminology, experimentation is performed. The present work also describes an architectural project which uses metadata characterized by the identification of knowledge structures composed of four approaches whose geometrical and architectonical focus are present. The proposed systematization, which denotes and delimits a specific vocabulary, is considered as being able to contribute to the re-indexing of formal frameworks through the dynamic process of memory constitution to the architecture design.

summary Propose: Costs are a major issue in low-cost housing projects. Traditional project process uses estimated cost studies and comparative methods in initial phases, but the cost itself is elaborated only at the end phases, generating significant re-working and changes in specifications and drawings. Is desirable to use tools that possibility more integration between costs and architectural projects. Some CAD software already offers these tools, but they are not use by architects. This work intention is search in these tools the integration between costs and architectural projects. Methods: To use software Vectorworks in a low-cost housing project, Residential Serra Verde; incorporate cost aspects at initial phase by parameterization of 3D model; analysis of cost and project results. Findings: validation of cost estimative with the utilization of tested procedures. Value: developing a simple methodology of cost estimation and integration with architectural project.

summary In contemporary architecture there is a growing interest in exploring unique forms and constructive solutions, which could hardly be conceived and materialized until recently. Operating in this context, the construction industry has tried to innovate by inventing new materials aside with rethinking existent ones. In this second scenario, given that the use of CAD/CAM technologies have opened new possibilities for traditional materials, it becomes important to ask if cork could face similar innovative opportunities. The present paper synthesizes some of the main arguments, experiments and results obtained in a PhD thesis about that question.

summary Nowadays HDR images are becoming a useful tool in lighting studies and post-occupancy evaluation. However, this technique requires cameras with manual control, and these features are not common on contemporary snapshot cameras, usually labeled as “amateurs”. However, all cameras have some kind of control that allows taking pictures with different exposures. This paper examines the possibility of making HDR images from digital compact cameras, as a way to contribute with a more accessible method for lighting studies. Tests were done in actual spaces and luminances were also measured by luminance meter. The comparison between both measures showed fairly correlative values.

summary The seizure of the concept of fractal allows you to establish a theoretical framework for the promotion of dynamic processes of generation and transformation of form. From a didactic interest, we sought to identify and analyze a tool of automated generation of fractal forms could contribute significantly to lay users in programming, understanding the concept of fractal. Drawing on constructivist theories of learning / teaching aimed to observe the potential of this tool to effectively approach to such concepts. A systematic held in the form of concept maps, is constituted as a learning object for the subject in question.

summary The production of an electronic book at the site www.cienciadosmateriais.org for high school teachers stimulated the reflection about the advantage of the transmission of the most important scientific theories (atomism and thermodynamics) using Materials Science (MS) as a course study and reaffirmed the power of animation and 3D graphical tools to improve the understanding and the spread of these theories. Supported in these reflections, the electronic book produced differentiates itself, in the way and the manner it was produced in relation to what has been presented on the Internet.

summary This paper describes the experiments that are being developed to support an inclusive or accessible exposition of photographs. Physical three dimensional models are being developed using 3D printing technologies to allow tactile experience. The method being structured for this production is registered. It includes the use of the concept of games seeking to work with the purpose of decomposition of information which is recommended by the inclusive communication literature.
