title Uma Arqueologia de Diagramas Cibernéticos [An Archaeology of Cybernetic Diagrams]
source SIGraDi 2013 [Proceedings of the 17th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-7051-86-1] Chile - Valparaíso 20 - 22 November 2013, pp. 353 - 356
summary This paper investigates the use of explicit structures of information in architectural design. Particularly, it approaches the use of diagrams related to cybernetics and information theory in experimental practices in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It analyses the diagram of cybernetic control proposed by the cybernetician Gordon Pask for the Fun Palace, the diagrams produced by the utopian architect Yona Friedman in the conceptual description of the Flatwriter program and Christopher Alexander’s diagrams and his theories of Synthesis of Form and Pattern Language. Finally it establishes a brief parallel between current domestication and use of dataflow programming with the cybernetic diagrams, highlighting differences in their complexity approach.

source SIGraDi 2004 - [Proceedings of the 8th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Porte Alegre - Brasil 10-12 november 2004
summary This research has a goal to verify the applicability of the new multimídia authoring tool as a usefull resource for architects and urban planners in analyzing large virtual processes that intervene in the production of the urban space. The Macromedia Director has shown an important device for crossing informationg and processes visualization. As a digital interactive interface the software Macromedia Director offers possibilities to particular accesses of the most various kinds of files and formats, and has great potential for architecture as an agent discipline.

title Graficando estructuras de conocimiento: Diagramas matriciales, infomapas, cartografias y estructuras de organización cognitiva [Representing Knowledge Structures: Matrix Diagrams, Infomaps, cartographies and Structures of Cognitive Organization]
source SIGraDi 2004 - [Proceedings of the 8th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Porte Alegre - Brasil 10-12 november 2004
summary This investigation approaches graphical representation systems as mechanisms that provide a greater level of expansion for the acquirement, production and transmission of knowledge. It serves as a digital educational instrument that connects to the academic platform and assists students and professors allowing them to experiment with different operational components directly form a user.s interface. The device has a Registration and Temporal Evaluation Structure, which allows students to retrieve information regarding the semester, course grades and student.s individual performance; a Search System, which downloads theoretical reference texts, practical tutorials, libraries of images, models or videos; an Interaction and Communication System, which benefits the exchange of information through forums and chats; and finally an Access, Interpretation and Data Transfer Map, which acts as a cartography of the process organizing simultaneously all the cognitive matrixes.

source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 133-136
summary In this paper we present a method of synthesizing data in the narrative discourse of two architecture publications, in order to analyze, compare and explore to what extent it is possible to understand a book on different abstract levels using static data. The information in the book is reorganized and shown in different diagrams, used as a didactic visualization method. This allows the representation of a set of kinetic information that cannot be perceived simultaneously.

source SIGraDi 2007 - [Proceedings of the 11th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] México D.F. - México 23-25 October 2007, pp. 280-285
summary Today’s architectural practice is specially based on diagrams to materialize its concepts, revealing at the same time the variety of cognitive styles used in architecture. They are usually employed to generate the strategic conditions to face the project, and in extreme cases they are immediately translated into architecture. As representations, they have evolved from an analogical condition towards a new recent variant, that is, the digital diagram. The present paper consists on identifying the digital qualities of diagrams and proposes certain analytical parameters to study the diagrammatic activity through the contemporary architectural project.

title Diagramas interativos: visualização e especulações sobre as dinâmicas urbanas [Interactive diagrams: visualization and speculation about urban dynamics]
source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 304-307
summary The main instrument of urban regulation in Brazil is the plano diretor. Currently, apart from serving as a legal document, it is also the sole means of representation of the rates, zones and boundaries that it determines. However, this representation has been inefficient and, given the need to include civil society in decision - making, it becomes imperative that the impact of decisions be reviewed and communicated. As an effort to solve this problem, we propose the creation of an interface that combines information design and GIS (geographic information systems) in the format of an interactive diagram.

summary The article is part of an ongoing theoretical research about the emergence of parametric architecture. It discusses some of the last developments in digital design from the transition of the discourse and operativity by “diagrams” to the theories and processes derived from “parameters”. Centered in Peter Eisenman’s and Patrik Schumacher’s propositions, it is in its horizon to comprehend what relations are established between “diagram” and “parameter” - similarities, complementarities and differences -, contributing for the critical contextualization of theoretical movements and design processes in contemporary architecture.

title Os Processos Projetuais na Arquitetura de Peter Eisenman [The Processes in the Architecture of Peter Eisenman]
source SIGraDi 2009 - Proceedings of the 13th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, Sao Paulo, Brazil, November 16-18, 2009
summary In the dialectic formal Eisenman, the procedures for projecting initially start from the consideration of architectural form as a transformation of a solid geometric pre-existing. Subsequently, the form is timeless, decomposed into spatial entities, non-specific, requiring the intellectualization of the process as an alternative to emotion perception. From the eighties, mediated by computer resources, self-referentiality is the keynote of the representational process and architectural experience. The search houses poetic diagrams as procedures for projecting computer, tangent now the concept of trail’ Derrida responsible for the intelligibility and readability of architecture, sometimes grotesque, or a rationale that contains the irrational.
