summary This article reflects about creation, through the analysis of joints and furniture that are easily assembly and disassembly destined for young people in constant territorial displacement situations. Obtained by digital fabrication in the largest public network of free Fab Labs in the world, which is provided by the City Hall of São Paulo and the maker culture present in these units. Thus, are used, bibliographic and iconographic analysis and drawings for a better understanding of this furniture that had as reference for the analysis the following books: Nomadic Furniture volumes 1 and 2 written by Victor Papanek and James Hennessey.

summary This article describes the process of theoretical and practical Fab Lab Kids Project in Brazil and in more detail the “Fab Lab Kids: Workshop environmental projects for public school children through manufacturing and digital electronics”, the most recent edition of this project, which consists conducting an experimental workshop with students from public school in the city of Guarulhos, São Paulo. Through the concept of learning by doing, children are exposed to the possibility of acting on the environment and the objects surrounding them, proposing objects that might solve socio-environmental issues, which are produced via electronics and digital fabrication.

summary This paper discusses issues raised during an experiment about the use of digital fabrication technologies in non-industrial contexts in three concurrent fronts: The first front was to get familiarized with the production ecology of a non-industrial building context, the favela. The second front was to verify the accessibility of digital fabrication technologies outside the industry by building a low cost CNC milling machine based on DIY instructions available in the internet. And the last front was to develop useful solutions with this technology to that context. Partial results are guidelines for improving the technology in order to fit the context

summary This article aims to address the use of 3D printers in the stages of design, development and final presentation in projects of architecture and urbanism. summary Digital fabrication has transformed the way buildings are constructed by applying methods such as friction-fit connection. This technique has been propagated by WikiHouse which aims to develop open building technologies to different environmental contexts. However, the indiscriminate use of the model may result in inefficiency of housing performance. This work, therefore, investigates solutions for adapting WikiHouses to the tropics, according to principles proposed by Armando de Holanda in ‘A Guide to Build in Northeast Brazil’. Nevertheless, difficulties related to certain adaptations were observed such as connections compatibility and design of large open spaces, especially because these systems depend on a maximum size of parts.

summary The aim of this paper is to design a public facilitie using both digital manufacture and rapid prototyping design methods. These new technologies have been used in product design development by some ways: helping in the comprehension of complex geometries; used as tools for analyzing the design process, thus avoiding errors in the project. The analysis were carried out using virtual simulation tests and physical prototype in reduced scale. The prototype was manufactured using the 3D printer V-Flash in the Virtual Design Laboratory – UFRGS, where positive and negatives aspects were identified and described.

summary The aim of this paper is to report the teaching experience held in 2012 at Unicamp between three disciplines of representation. Students analyzed emblematic residences from digital and physical models. Digital models were produced in Revit and its building components were diagrammed in AutoCad. After that, these elements were sent to laser cutter, and hand assembled. In 3DS Max, 3D model allowed simulations such as rendered images and animations. We report the contributions of these analog and digital artifacts in the design process. This article contributes to reflection and debate on the application of digital technologies in the analysis of iconic buildings of architecture.

Thus, the article will describe the production of a real-scale prototype of a part of the structure of a residential unit, adapting an Open Source construction system (Wikihouse).

summary This paper discusses the potential of digital fabrication for assisting people in building low cost furniture. It is analyzed what motivates people to join the “Do-it-Yourself” culture, and proposes the construction of a desk from reused materials, combined with joints and components that are digitally designed and become available online. Finally, the paper discusses the possibilities of digital fabrication to adapt to a context that is not inserted in the industrial environment and highlights the research potentials to increase the user autonomy.

summary This research seeks to assess the use of digital fabrication of toys reusing wood from earlier models produced in undergraduate courses in architecture and design. Froebel (2002) discusses the pedagogical application of blocks of wood that he created, inspired by the information that the architect Frank Lloyd Wright was influenced in his childhood by playing with toy blocks. Among other authors, we found a catalog from the Aladdin factory that is owned by Uruguayan modern artist Torres Garcia. The research aimed to recreate similar educational toys within a context of global crisis and interest in sustainability.

summary This article addresses an experiment carried out in the context of a digital fabrication laboratory and which purpose was to introduce basic algorithm concepts through the practice of Origami. The logical thinking associated with the area of programming is not common in the Brazilian educational institutions curriculum. This reality is noticeable in the environment of a FabLab, since it has a day dedicated to the free access and use of the community. No prerequisites are needed in order to attend the open day, enabling people to have access to numerically controlled equipments. For a conscientious use of these technologies it is important that the user have knowledge of the algorithmic logic allowing them to go beyond the basic functions inherent to each machine. The activity documented in this article intend to make the algorithmic logic accessible to a lay public insofar as the participant can identify similarities between the programming language and the development stages of the millennial technique of the paper fold.

summary This article presents the result of the activities carried out for the discipline of the program Master in Design and Technology (UFRGS), Digital Manufacturing Process as a Tool for Project. It aimed to develop a product based on digital manufacturing process. With this purpose, was designed a package for the transport of apples. In order to achieve the goal the generation of alternatives was conducted through a game and Sketch Creative Brainstorming, followed by research on the product life cycle. Subsequently, was used parametric modeling software for the package design. The use of three-dimensional modeling software Rhinoceros together with the plug-in Grasshopper allowed the construction of three-dimensional parametric models. As a result, we obtained the creation of a product that can be adapted to other fruits, avoiding rework, and run through rapid prototyping, this being a consequence of the facilities of adoption of digital fabrication.

summary This paper presents a discussion about the ephemeral architecture, the insertion of the Digital Fabrication in the design process and its contribution to the transformation of these spaces. The paper presents an experience of the use of this technology in the production of some Businesses Fairs. In the case reported, the Digital Fabrication allowed greater freedom in the generation of form, facilitating the visualization of the project as a whole and consequently aiding in the compatibility, anticipating possible failures before fabrication and assembly.

Right now we don´t know exactly how this new system will work, but there are no doubts that will change our near future.

Every moment needs some decision, all decisions are acceptable, but we cannot come back, and also we cannot predict the future. The installation is dedicated to labyrinths.
