The Grammatical Studio Disrupting Regularities in Digital Media Design Education
CAADRIA 2003 [Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia / ISBN 974-9584-13-9] Bangkok Thailand 18-20 October 2003, pp. 433-446
Grammar governs the ordered way in which words are modified and combined in human languages to convey complex concepts beyond the simplicities of individual words. By extension (but less susceptible to analysis) grammar governs the way in which visual elements are modified and combined in art and design compositions. In this paper we focus on the outcomes and effects of placing grammar and contingency in the forefront of studio teaching with digital media in architecture and art, and how experience in these two domains can inform each other.
