summary The advent of the ‘ubiquitous computing society’, in which computing will be omnipresent, will bring about drastic changes in the design of building and the cities they form. The goal of our research is to establish guidelines for designing structures and urban spaces best suited for a ubiquitous environment. As a first step, in this paper we discuss how ubiquitous computing can be applied from both the notional and technical viewpoints, develop a prototype system using it. Then we test this system in real-project, and explore the feasibility of applying this system in a ubiquitous environment.
