title A Case Based Architectural Design Application for Residential Units
source eDesign in Architecture: ASCAAD's First International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design, 7-9 December 2004, KFUPM, Saudi Arabia
summary Case Based Reasoning (CBR) is an AI approach that is widely used in many fields. When itís applied in the design field, it is frequently called Case Based Design (CBD). Its main idea resides in drawing analogies between past cases and the new case to be solved so that the user can make use of past experiences when solving a new problem. The work presented here describes a prototype application under development that makes use of CBR in the field of architectural design. The application is to act as a helping tool for architects in the pre-design phase by supplying them with an adequate number of similar past architectural cases to the design problem they have at hand. The different modules of the application will be presented and discussed, as well as the tools used to develop them.
