title Arabic Word Processing
source communications of the ACM. July, 1987. vol. 30: pp. 600-610 : ill. includes bibliography
summary The technology of word processing in the Middle East recently developed a word processing software that can correctly format the cursive, interacting letters of the Arabic script. Moreover, new layout procedures can automatically intermix right-to-left Arabic or Hebrew writing with left-to-right text in European or other languages. The design presented in this article is embodied in the Xerox View Point Documenter, but its principles apply equally well to any Arabic desktop publishing

title Learning from other Disciplines for Designing Technologically Enhanced Spaces
source Communicating Space(s) [24th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 0-9541183-5-9] Volos (Greece) 6-9 September 2006, pp. 540-547
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2006.540
summary In this paper we explore how design methods from different disciplines can be applied to designing technology-embedded, communicative spaces and how interdisciplinary transfer can be improved. We present design understandings from architecture, engineering, natural sciences, management sciences, and philosophy. Methods, principles, practices, and procedures from mechanical engineering, neuroinformatics and knowledge visualization are applied in handling complex tasks and in improving communication among different disciplines. We present first findings for fruitful cooperation and for transferring knowledge across disciplines.

source Kepczynska-Walczak, A, Bialkowski, S (eds.), Computing for a better tomorrow - Proceedings of the 36th eCAADe Conference - Volume 1, Lodz University of Technology, Lodz, Poland, 19-21 September 2018, pp. 139-148
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2018.1.139
summary The paper focuses on possibilities of already known engineering procedures such as Finite Element Method or Topology Optimisation for effective implementation in architectural design process. The existing attempts of complex engineering algorithms implementation, as a form finding approach will be discussed. By intersecting architectural form evaluation with engineering analysis complemented by optimisation algorithms, the new quality of contemporary architecture design process may appears.

year 1977
title Models of light reflection for computer synthesised pictures
source Computer Graphics, 11 2, 192-198
summary Bui-Tuong Phong published his illumination model in 1973, in the paper titled "Illumination for Computer-Generated Images". Phong's model is a local illumination model, which means only direct reflections are taken into account. Light that bounces off more than one surface before reaching the eye is not accounted for. While this may not be very realistic, it allows the lighting to be computed efficiently. To properly handle indirect lighting, a global illumination method such as radiosity is required, which is much more expensive. In addition to Phong's basic lighting equation, we will look at a variation invented by Jim Blinn. Blinn changed the way specular is calculated, making the computations slightly cheaper. Blinn published his approach in his paper "Models of Light Reflection for Computer Synthesised Pictures" in 1977.

source IPC Business Press. July, 1980. vol. 12: pp. 199-201 : ill. includes bibliography
summary For some applications, further subdivision of a segment of a B-spline curve or B-spline surface is desirable. This paper provides an algorithm for this. The structure is similar to de Boor's algorithm for the calculation of a point on a curve. An application of the subdivision is illustrated

title Implantação de software BIM em curso de arquitetura [BIM application in course of architecture]
source SIGraDi 2014 [Proceedings of the 18th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-9974-99-655-7] Uruguay - Montevideo 12 - 14 November 2014, pp. 49-52
summary This paper presents partial results from a process of a BIM application in the third period of the Architecture course of PUC Minas from August 2011. The study refers to a learning experience. It is, methodologically, an experimental research. The software learning process happens parallel to the design process. The students have to design a little house, with help of all disciplines of the period. The great advantage of BIM in the design process is that obtaining the details, cuts, plants, etc. occurs from detailed digital model of the building.

source Game-On 2001, Holiday Inn London Docks, London, United Kingdom , November 30 - December 1, 2001. http://hobbes.rug.ac.be/~scs/conf/gameon2001/index.php3
summary In this paper we present an Intelligent Virtual Environment (IVE) obtained by incorporating a problem solving mechanism (AI technique) into a Virtual Environment. In particular, in this paper, we will discuss the implementation of the interaction with the problem solving mechanism by using the following metaphor: the visual space provided by the Virtual Environment is seen as the search space
