title EL WEB SITE DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE BUENOS AIRES: IMAGEN INSTITUCIONAL, DISEÑO E IMPLEMENTACIÓN. (The Web Site of the University of Buenos Aires: Institutional Image, Design and Implementation)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 127-130
summary The present work constitutes a description of the design and implementation process for the new University of Buenos Aires’s Internet Website. The developed stages and the establishment of the institutional subjects generated a system able to support the growth of a variable information structure. Our intention was to complement two instances: to represent the University like an institution and to incorporate services for the user. The dialogue between the two instances generated an architecture of information with an almost fixed content and another one totally variable, that allows the natural growth of the thematics and opens the doors towards the self-manage of content.

title Construyendo una ciudad sostenible en la frontera: planificación de la ciudad de Colombia, Nuevo León, México [Constructing A Sustainable City In the Border: Planning of the City of Colombia, Nuevo León, Mexico ]
source 2da Conferencia Venezolana sobre Aplicación de Computadores en Arquitectura, Maracaibo (Venezuela) december 2001, pp. 194-203
summary The policy rationale for promotion of urban development in the Mexico-Texas borderland of Nuevo León is likely to be sustained and even strengthened. The University of Texasí participation in new town planning for Colombia spans at least three hierarchical levels with students, faculty members, practitioners and government officials joining efforts. At the ìstudio levelî, students completed a comprehensive landscape assessment for portions of the future city using GPS surveying and GIS database and modeling. Graduate students, using field data, updated 2000 maps/shapefiles, and spatial modeling as an analysis tool, created a series of spatial models to produce useful information about the study areaís inherent suitability for agriculture, human settlement and preservation. This work culminated in a research symposium, planning charrette, refinement of land use and infrastructure assumptions, and the development of masterplan elements for the future city. In contrast to the professional firm, the project provides unique opportunities for intensive learning and applied research that contribute to the ecological, social and economic well-being of new cities and developing regions,

source 2da Conferencia Venezolana sobre Aplicación de Computadores en Arquitectura, Maracaibo (Venezuela) december 2001, pp. 146-155
summary In 1997, the Research Institute of Faculty of Architecture and Design, University of Zulia, started the R&D project of a decision making support system for tourism planning. For this, GIS technologies have been used for geocodification and spatial analysis of all the tourism facilities and resources existing in Zulia State, studying this kind of socioeconomic development according to critical poverty problems that are typical of their population. This paper describes this geographic information system, with the application of accessibility analysis, areas of influence, and threedimensional studies through network analysisó three-dimensional analysis with ArcView GIS clients, ArcExplorer clients, and MapObjects clients, on an MS Windows NT client/server environment.

title M.I.C.R.A. - A WBI System to Manage Information for the Recovery of Ancient Buildings
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2001.061
source Architectural Information Management [19th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 0-9523687-8-1] Helsinki (Finland) 29-31 August 2001, pp. 61-66
summary In the field of Architecture and Building Construction is increasing the tendency to search information in the old construction handbooks to find more easily the best solutions to the recovery of ancient buildings: to make them easily accessible we are developing an “electronic handbook” by using the technologies related to Internet. The paper reports on M.I.C.R.A. (Manuale Informatizzato per la Codifica della Regola d’Arte), a WBI System able to allow different kind of users (from experts in the fields of Architecture and Building Construction to university students) to easily find the information stored in the old construction handbooks -edited since the 18th century and normally stored in different libraries around Europe- and to immediately compare them each other. The system information management and the data structuring are explained by describing the design strategies and the specific “research criteria” we have adopted to the development of the system.

title INCORPORACIÓN DE MEDIOS DIGITALES A LA ENSEÑANZA DE UN TALLER DE PROYECTO TRADICIONAL (Incorporation of Digital Media in the Teaching of a Traditional Design Studio)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 176-178
summary This is a research project in progress sponsored by the Universidad de Belgrano; it is to be completed by the end of 2001. The work comprises the observation of design processes done by students using manual and digital means following the same phases (study of the context and program, parti alternatives, fixation of a general scheme, formal and material development). Each of these phases is tackled by students according to their preferences, availability of equipment and degree of training in the use of digital media. An evident drawback for students is that the possiblities of testing design alternatives are reduced because of low expertise in representation. It is our intention to develop know-how about the use of this mixture of media in the most appropriate way for a design assignment, like the one we have for the use of graphic representations, study models, etc. We should be able to describe in detail the relations between traditional and digital representation considering both as means for reaching a more complete knowledge of the object we are designing. Thus we can evaluate the possibilities of articulation between both systems and the best way to exploit these relations for didactical ends.

title FORMAS TRIDIMENSIONALES INNOVADORAS: ARQUITECTURA BASADA EN LA TEORÍA DE NUDOS (Innovative Three-Dimensional Forms: Architecture Based on the Theory of Knots)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 89-91
summary The theory of knots is a branch of mathematics that is in charge of studying the topological behaviour of lineal entities configuring forms in three-dimensional space. Starting from their spatial character it is possible to establish correspondences with three-dimensional forms of architectural use, constituting a stimulative tool of creativity. The objectives of this work consist on analysing how to enlarge the possibilities of computers aided architectural design (CAAD) from the theory of knots, classifying forms of knots of architectural use and developing a design procedure of architectural shapes, emphasizing concepts of structure, path and form.

title LA MODELACIÓN Y SIMULACIÓN ENERGÉTICO-AMBIENTAL COMO HERRAMIENTA DE REDISEÑO ARQUITECTÓNICO (The Modeling and Simulation of a Power-Based Environment Tool of Architectural Redesign)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 83-85
summary The aim of this paper is to explore the potential of building simulation programs as an evaluation and redesign tool. The research work consisted on the evaluation of thermal comfort in three low cost houses situated on different climatic zones of Chile, in order to create a matrix of appropriate redesign strategies with an adequate analysis of cost and benefits. Conclusions stressed out that building simulations programs are a useful tool for evaluating building performance, but detailed programs are still unfriendly to use widely by architects.
