title EL WEB SITE DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE BUENOS AIRES: IMAGEN INSTITUCIONAL, DISEÑO E IMPLEMENTACIÓN. (The Web Site of the University of Buenos Aires: Institutional Image, Design and Implementation)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 127-130
summary The present work constitutes a description of the design and implementation process for the new University of Buenos Aires’s Internet Website. The developed stages and the establishment of the institutional subjects generated a system able to support the growth of a variable information structure. Our intention was to complement two instances: to represent the University like an institution and to incorporate services for the user. The dialogue between the two instances generated an architecture of information with an almost fixed content and another one totally variable, that allows the natural growth of the thematics and opens the doors towards the self-manage of content.

summary In a previous paper (SiGradi 2000) we presented a design approach based upon the architectural research that regarded digital technologies as a subordinated tool to architectural design. From that starting point and from various research experiences, we have re-oriented certain guidelines and latter developed specific techniques that can be used both for teaching and for the professional practice of architecture. Through the use of paradigmatic and hermeneutic techniques developed ad hoc, architectural projects are developed in a three-stage sequence: a) development of a narrative framework; b) analysis based on object oriented programming thechniques; and c) digital development of the preliminary design. We believe that the positive aspects of the inclusion of these idea-centered techniques to the digital realm unifies and extends the architectural knowledge and strengthens its conception.

source Architectural Information Management [19th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 0-9523687-8-1] Helsinki (Finland) 29-31 August 2001, pp. 61-66
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2001.061
summary In the field of Architecture and Building Construction is increasing the tendency to search information in the old construction handbooks to find more easily the best solutions to the recovery of ancient buildings: to make them easily accessible we are developing an “electronic handbook” by using the technologies related to Internet. The paper reports on M.I.C.R.A. (Manuale Informatizzato per la Codifica della Regola d’Arte), a WBI System able to allow different kind of users (from experts in the fields of Architecture and Building Construction to university students) to easily find the information stored in the old construction handbooks -edited since the 18th century and normally stored in different libraries around Europe- and to immediately compare them each other. The system information management and the data structuring are explained by describing the design strategies and the specific “research criteria” we have adopted to the development of the system.

title INCORPORACIÓN DE MEDIOS DIGITALES A LA ENSEÑANZA DE UN TALLER DE PROYECTO TRADICIONAL (Incorporation of Digital Media in the Teaching of a Traditional Design Studio)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 176-178
summary This is a research project in progress sponsored by the Universidad de Belgrano; it is to be completed by the end of 2001. The work comprises the observation of design processes done by students using manual and digital means following the same phases (study of the context and program, parti alternatives, fixation of a general scheme, formal and material development). Each of these phases is tackled by students according to their preferences, availability of equipment and degree of training in the use of digital media. An evident drawback for students is that the possiblities of testing design alternatives are reduced because of low expertise in representation. It is our intention to develop know-how about the use of this mixture of media in the most appropriate way for a design assignment, like the one we have for the use of graphic representations, study models, etc. We should be able to describe in detail the relations between traditional and digital representation considering both as means for reaching a more complete knowledge of the object we are designing. Thus we can evaluate the possibilities of articulation between both systems and the best way to exploit these relations for didactical ends.

title APLICACIÓN DE UN ALGORITMO DE RECONOCIMIENTO DE RECINTOS A UN SISTEMA CAD PARA LAS INDUSTRIAS DE LA PIEDRA (Application of an Algorithm for Recognition of Enclosures to a CAD System for the Stone Industry)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 98-102
summary Precise recognition and numbering of the pieces to be cut is necessary in the production process of the stone processing industry. The measures (diminished, should there be any joints), material, finish, thickness and any works to be carried out on the sides of each piece, must be detailed in the instruction cards. Several mistakes usually occur during this process which cause waste of time and material. To overcome this a graphical application program has been designed which will automate the process as far as possible. Its core is an algorithm for the automatical recognition of polygons complete with other applications to guarantee the coherence and uniqueness of this information.

title EFECTOS E INFLUENCIAS DE LA PRESENCIA DE LA IMAGEN EN LAS LECTURAS - MULTIDIMENSIONALES DE SISTEMAS HIPERMEDIAS (Effects and Influences of the Presence of Images in the Multidimentional Reading of Hypermedia Systems)
source SIGraDi biobio2001 - [Proceedings of the 5th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics / ISBN 956-7813-12-4] Concepcion (Chile) 21-23 november 2001, pp. 16-18
summary Hypermedia Systems (HS) have deeply modified the methods for organizing and recovering information with respect to most traditional transmission methods; they are radically changing the experiences of reading, communication, comprehension and learning. This work aims at showing the results of a study on the consequences and the relationship between the presence of image and the positive attitudes generated in learning processes within HS multidimensional readings. We set to demonstrate that the presence of images, particularly digital images, has a positive influence on the singular construction of hypermedia narratives; first, from their appeal and then by facilitating the thematic decentering and the access to conceptualization. From these results, we propose guidelines to be applied in didactic HS designs.

title Construyendo una ciudad sostenible en la frontera: planificación de la ciudad de Colombia, Nuevo León, México [Constructing A Sustainable City In the Border: Planning of the City of Colombia, Nuevo León, Mexico ]
source 2da Conferencia Venezolana sobre Aplicación de Computadores en Arquitectura, Maracaibo (Venezuela) december 2001, pp. 194-203
summary The policy rationale for promotion of urban development in the Mexico-Texas borderland of Nuevo León is likely to be sustained and even strengthened. The University of Texasí participation in new town planning for Colombia spans at least three hierarchical levels with students, faculty members, practitioners and government officials joining efforts. At the ìstudio levelî, students completed a comprehensive landscape assessment for portions of the future city using GPS surveying and GIS database and modeling. Graduate students, using field data, updated 2000 maps/shapefiles, and spatial modeling as an analysis tool, created a series of spatial models to produce useful information about the study areaís inherent suitability for agriculture, human settlement and preservation. This work culminated in a research symposium, planning charrette, refinement of land use and infrastructure assumptions, and the development of masterplan elements for the future city. In contrast to the professional firm, the project provides unique opportunities for intensive learning and applied research that contribute to the ecological, social and economic well-being of new cities and developing regions,

summary Although we are already in the new millennium, some architects still doubt about the discipline introduction of the Digital Graph in architects development. For that reason, it is important to put forward some reflections in the sigradi, that collaborate to establish and spread the digital graph as a disciplinary area of teaching architecture. The Digital Graph included in the University of Architecture and postgraduation, collaborates from the biginning in the discipline development, as long as it trains and teaches the new way of architecture representation and prefiguration that arise from the introduction of new tools.

summary Today the multimedia technology offers us an undeveloped world of resources. But these resources are not didactic themselves; they depend on the way they are used. The management of new variables, such as interactivity, redundancy, will allow to reach a superior level in relation to that of the attraction/fascination, characteristic of the digital means. Under this conceptual base, an investigation project is developed with the objective of constructing a didactic multimedia, strongly determined by the characteristics of the topic SEISMIC PREVENTION, and guided specifically to the construction of preventive BEHAVIORS, before, during and after the occurrence of an earthquake.
