title The Project Planning of Urban Decongestion
source Van Leeuwen, J.P. and H.J.P. Timmermans (eds.) Developments in Design & Decision Support Systems in Architecture and Urban Planning, Eindhoven: Eindhoven University of Technology, ISBN 90-6814-155-4, p. 77-92
summary This study introduces a methodology for the evaluation, among a set of possible plans and/or policies, of a transport system which could reduce the effects of the network congestion on an urban area. Hence it is proposed a procedure which contains a new element compared with the current methodologies that is the final user’s evaluation of the examined system by turning to the application of the contingent valuation method, a technique like stated preferences. The approach we propose is based on the necessity for a determination of an optimal solution to the urban congestion to be established on the politic acceptability by the final user. Solutions which result virtually feasible for a public administration both on a technique and economic point of view often meet hostility by individuals. Consequently, it would be interesting for policy makers to adopt a process of valuation which could let to understand the user’s sensitivity and hostility towards specific configurations of the system, chosen as solution to decongestion (traffic calming, roadpricing, auto-free zones) and consequently to make less unpleasant the strategy to be carried out to control congestion (Harrington et al., 2001). In this way, a user does not judge the implementation of a set of projects made by a decision-maker as imposition and he is willing to pay in order to fulfil the chosen scenario. Finally we describe an application of the proposed methodology relating the definition of the integrated transport system in the metropolitan area of Bari, chief town of Apulia.

title AND WOULD COMPUTER SAVE THE MAGIC PLACE? A BOJARY STORY
source LOCAL VALUES in a NETWORKED DESIGN WORLD - ADDED VALUE OF COMPUTER AIDED ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN, Stellingwerff, Martijn and Verbeke, Johan (Eds.), (2004) DUP Science - Delft University Press, ISBN 90-407-2507-1.
summary Each city has its own magic, the spirit of the place. Not always are these ‘magic’ places commonly known. There are cities, however, for which such places are their pride and fame. Is there anybody who would not associate the Golden Street with Prague, or the Spanish Stairs with Rome? In Bialystok the magic quality is attributed to the district of Bojary.Currently Bojary is one of the districts of Bialystok. The town was first created as such in the 18th century as a result of merging of two villages: Bojary and Skorupy, church grounds and Kolonia Lowiecka known as Krolikarnia. Only Bojary has retained the old communication plan of the former village and characteristic type of wooden structure from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

title The Model of the Town Hradec Kralove 2000
source Spatial Simulation and Evaluation - New Tools in Architectural and Urban Design [Proceedings of the 6th European Architectural Endoscopy Association Conference / ISBN 80-227-2088-7], pp. 103-105
summary The work on this model is a unique case not only with regard to its extent but predominantly to the implementation of the most up-to-date model production technologies developed on the basis of research activities in the Institute of Model Design, Faculty of Architecture, Czech Technical University in Prague. The construction of the 2000 HK model was ordered on the basis of tender by the Municipality Office of Hradec Králové – Department of the Architect on occasion of the 775th anniversary of the town’s foundation.

title Mercedes: De lo sustentable al ecoproyecto en poblados con patrimonio histórico [Mercedes: A Sustainable Ecoproject in Towns with Historical Patrimony]
source SIGraDi 2004 - [Proceedings of the 8th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Porte Alegre - Brasil 10-12 november 2004
summary This proposal addresses the following topic of a doctoral thesis in progress: The Evolution and Development of Digitized Processes for the Research and Maintenance of Small Town Patrimonies, School and Architecture and Urban Design, University of Buenos Aires, co-directed by architects A. Montagu and R. Gutierrez. The research has been based on the town of Mercedes, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, symbols of Buenos Aires.s cultural heritage. At this stage, we are looking for alternative methods to support a project of patrimonial preservation that would help define future landscapes of small towns, and, at the same time, would have minimal or positive environmental impact. This analysis proposes reflexive studies of the paradigms affecting the environment and the feasibility of the project, with the intention of utilizing the concept of .ecoproject.. Therefore, the crucial assistance of specific digital systems, from which evolution is analyzed, supports and enhances the efficiency of the proposed goal. New and broad research opportunities are opening up in this field.

title Visualisation of Martyr’s Square, Beirut
source CONVR2005 5th Conference of Construction Applications of Virtual Reality, ADETTI/ISCTE, Durham, UK, 12-13 September 2005
summary Solidere, a Lebanese joint-stock company, was created by government decree in 1994 to reconstruct Beirut city-centre. The company, a form of public-private partnership, has a majority share holding of former owners and tenants of city-centre property. Several projects are underway, including the redevelopment of Place des Martyrs, once the bustling heart of Beirut but badly damaged during the war. Urban planners in Beirut have recently developed a 3D computer model to visually describe the spatial characteristics of Martyr’s Square and its context, prior to inviting design proposals for an international competition. This paper describes issues pertaining to the development of the model to meet the needs of urban designers and town planners. It also considers potential future uses of the simulation, outlining areas for further research and development.

title Our Views on Actual Researches of 3D-modelling in Architecture
source Spatial Simulation and Evaluation - New Tools in Architectural and Urban Design [Proceedings of the 6th European Architectural Endoscopy Association Conference / ISBN 80-227-2088-7], pp. 48-58
summary This contribution is devoted to the brief description of the basic directions and tendencies of researches of the laboratory of video systems MARCHI. In connection with development of hardware-software computer means and their practically absolute, not alternative application in the practice of architectural designing, nowadays (not always is proved) the sphere of application of the former traditional methods of physical modeling and their connection to the endoscopic methods has been narrowed. We consider some new probable directions of development of scientific and educational work within the framework of activity of our laboratory, allowing a more balanced approach to these problems. As we have discussed, our theoretical researches and practical works must reassume an existing non-standard and controversial situation in Russia, such as established substantial intellectual potentials in scientific- and methodological researches within study processes. In addition to that, what we can use are affordable and limited physical and financial recourses and capability for technical development of works for modeling perception in designing architectural and town planning space. These initiated searches in the field of non-standard thinking, derive from our contacts with EAEA colleagues. Below we will try briefly to explain our basic principles of work development. (To be clear, some time we dismiss references and notes into exact reports from our conferences supposing that interested colleagues may get further and detailed information from already published past events).
