title A Complex-Based Building Information System
source Predicting the Future [25th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-6-5] Frankfurt am Main (Germany) 26-29 September 2007, pp. 591-598
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2007.591
summary Volume modeling, finite element computation and spatial information systems have a common basis in topology, especially in the theory of complexes which are higher dimensional generalization of graphs. A complex is a topological space having a certain algebraic structure called “chain complex” and due to its similarity to real world buildings a special kind of complexes are even called “buildings” in mathematics. So it would be consequent to base a building information system upon this theory or at least try to do so. Some manipulations and queries of such spaces can then be expressed by mappings which are similar to complex-morphisms and generalize the well known Euler operators. Other practical useful operations like assigning a detail to a spatial element (“refinement”), hiding details at lower scale views (“coarsening”) or spatial versioning, however, need a somewhat different kind of mappings. This paper shows a simple relational database representation of a finite complex as a basis for a database backed building information system. The implementation of operations on such a relational complex in Java will also be shown.

title Design of products elaborated with laminar materials and textiles. From 3D-CAD models to pattern‘s documentation [Diseño de productos elaborados con textiles y laminares - Del 3D-CAD a la documentación de patrones bidimensionales]
source SIGraDi 2007 - [Proceedings of the 11th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] México D.F. - México 23-25 October 2007, pp. 315-321
summary This paper expose a way in which we are educating our students in industrial design in Venezuela, particularly at the time when they deal with the design of products with textiles. In one hand, the elaboration of patterns from digital-CAD models is shown. Where stages of exploration in product development of complex articles, the process of “trial and error” has been practically eliminated with the use of a software-CAD. And in the other hand, the documentation of these patterns exhibit that this is not just a drawing of their designs, it will be a way to change the work system in our Small and Medium Industries.

source SIGraDi 2007 - [Proceedings of the 11th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] México D.F. - México 23-25 October 2007, pp. 393-396
summary This text describes an art category which draws on the Augmented Reality (AR) Technology, which is capable of inspiring the copulation as well as the interaction, in real time, between images of reality, which might be those of the observer him/herself and the mental images, which might be artistic and generated by a computer. Stemming from the fusion of both types of image, where the former digitalises reality, whereas the latter simulates a three-dimensional image, a third image is obtained, which questions, it might be argued, reality itself. This text revolves around the attempt to demonstrate that AR is deemed a sub-group of Virtual Reality and its process as a whole as well as its imagetic system stems from the knowledge one has of the world, the exactness of reproduction one may attain of it and, finally, from the metaphor of one’s presence in it.

source SIGraDi 2007 - [Proceedings of the 11th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] México D.F. - México 23-25 October 2007, pp. 439-443
summary The circus has a format that is repeated in the city. The city is a spectacle, it is the result of a carnival. All we perceive and see is held by a set of segments that allow this scheme to work. The tent that covers the circus is everyday life. Manipulation starts in a showcase. Images are juggled. There is a script that supports contents. Image is a very ancient sacrifice. An enchantment takes place in memory. The crowd is a filter. Its arrival is disappearance.
