title Computing Different Projections of a Polyhedral Scene from a Single 2D Sketch
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2008.195
source Architecture in Computro [26th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-7-2] Antwerpen (Belgium) 17-20 September 2008, pp. 195-200
summary This paper presents the development of a tool which is capable of compute several projections of a polyhedral scene from a single axonometric or perspective projection. This projection is hand-drawn and may be incomplete. This sketch can be rotated with a kind of trackball and the tool computes in real-time new projections. In that way the designer can choose another view from which he is able to control and complete the sketch and carry on designing. So this tool can be useful for exploring architectural forms in the early phases of the design process. Unlike others freehand sketching interfaces, the system does not operate any reconstruction in 3D. Everything is computed in a 2D world.

title An Interactive Graphical System for Collaborative Architectural Design in 3D Virtual Environments
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2008.601
source CAADRIA 2008 [Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia] Chiang Mai (Thailand) 9-12 April 2008, pp. 601-608
summary This paper presents the development of an interactive graphical system applicable to collaborative architectural design in 3D virtual environments and its preliminary application for a building design project. This interactive graphical system integrates the spatial system and the stylistic system and specialises in styles representation and exploration in architectural design.

title Adopting Building Information Modeling (BIM) as Collaboration Platform in the Design Industry
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2008.053
source CAADRIA 2008 [Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia] Chiang Mai (Thailand) 9-12 April 2008, pp. 53-60
summary This paper discusses the preliminary findings of an ongoing research project aimed at developing a technological, operational and strategic analysis of adopting BIM in AEC/FM (Architecture-Engineering-Construction/Facility Management) industry as a collaboration tool. Outcomes of the project will provide specifications and guidelines as well as establish industry standards for implementing BIM in practice. This research primarily focuses on BIM model servers as a collaboration platform, and hence the guidelines are aimed at enhancing collaboration capabilities. This paper reports on the findings from: (1) a critical review of latest BIM literature and commercial applications, and (2) workshops with focus groups on changing work-practice, role of technology, current perception and expectations of BIM. Layout for case studies being undertaken is presented. These findings provide a base to develop comprehensive software specifications and national guidelines for BIM with particular emphasis on BIM model servers as collaboration platforms.

title A solution of geometric security based on autoCAD
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2008.180
source CAADRIA 2008 [Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia] Chiang Mai (Thailand) 9-12 April 2008, pp. 180-184
summary There are numerous electronic blueprints used in engineering today. The geometric security of these blueprints is a big problem to be solved. Based on the research on CAD system mechanics, this paper gives a solution that makes geometric access and use secure,, and gives an implementation on AutoCAD system. It designs a new encryption system compatible with the built-in encryption according to the exploration of variants and commands mechanism in AutoCAD system, and the analysis of structure of drawing database. The solution provides a safe access to files for different level users, and it places the control of edit authority on special geometrics via adding customized objects which contains authority information and password to the graphic information database.
