title Generative House: Exploration of Digital Fabrication and Generative System for Low - cost Housing in Southern Brazil
source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 384-387
summary Generative House is a collaborative exploration of advanced technologies for lower - and working - class housing carried out by industrial and academic partners in southern Brazil. It seeks to test generative procedures and digital manufacturing to develop a flexible building system for low - cost sustainable housing in order to inspire future developments in this field by developing an urban grammar through manufacturing models and generative programming, as well as parametric design of panels assembled using digital fabrication. Scale models and full - scale prototype with timber boards have been built, demonstrating the feasibility of the approach proposed. However, further refinement of the adopted procedures and technical applications is required.

title R:DAR Regions, Areas, and Directioning in Augmented Reality: un estudio para el móvil Samsung I8000 Omnia II [RA:DAR Regions, Areas, and Directioning in Augmented Reality: a case study for the Samsung mobile phone 18000 Omnia II]
source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 125-128
summary This work stems from our research on augmented reality (AR); it is focused on the development of AR applications for smartphones. This research was motivated by many factors including the reality that: mobile phones have become commonplace in our societies, there is high demand for access to real - time information, and that smartphones are practical, powerful, and compact devices that are available in developed as well as emerging economies. In light of such facts this work presents a case study and proposes the development of an application capable of linking the most remarkable features of smarthphones (GPS, camera, accelerometer, internet access, and compass).

title Variaciones intensivas: diseño paramétrico de edificios en altura basado en análisis topológico [Intensive variations: parametric design of tall buildings based on topological analysis]
source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 129-132
summary Several building works have demonstrated the possibilities of architectural design based on structural performance. This work discusses some examples and digital design strategies that approach this issue, as well as an exercise for a tower generated through topological optimization. That experience presents alternatives for a traditional office tower in Santiago, Chile, the Torre Santa Maria, based on generative design strategies for the incorporation of structural and environmental requirements to define parametric models. The experience and the capabilities studied reveal an intensive variation of architectural shape. This approach challenges conventional building regularity and suggests new ways of designing based on material performance.

title Muro - pixel: exploración digital de un sistema constructivo de placas entrelazadas [Muro - pixel: digital exploration of a constructive system with interlocking plates]
source SIGraDi 2010_Proceedings of the 14th Congress of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics, pp. Bogotá, Colombia, November 17-19, 2010, pp. 205-208
summary This paper reports the initial development of a constructive system based on interlocked boards manufactured through digital fabrication. The system is based on the elaboration of grooves in regular pieces by a laser - cutter or CNC - machines to develop self - supported configurations. A parametric design system has been designed and several material models and full - scale prototypes have been built. Although the system requires evaluation of its structural features, production and maintenance, it offers novel building alternatives. This experience set up an innovative way of performing experimental research to develop new products and possible designs.
