title Caronae - ridesharing and first steps into commuting opportunitie of academic exchange
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2019.1.805
source Sousa, JP, Xavier, JP and Castro Henriques, G (eds.), Architecture in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution - Proceedings of the 37th eCAADe and 23rd SIGraDi Conference - Volume 1, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal, 11-13 September 2019, pp. 805-816
summary Location-based mobile applications have been a rising theme for academics in the field of urbanism and in urban and transportation, because of the potential of transformation they might bring to the urban landscape (De Souza e Silva, 2013). One of the possibilities we study here is to observe social encounters fostered by commuting rides. In this paper, we try to examine the practice from the broad perspective of estimating the environmental benefits, in a context where digital information technology is wielded to address problems old and new (Townsend, 2014). This paper aims to analyze the potential of transformations that new ICTs bring to urban mobility, using as case study the official ridesharing system of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Carona? project. The system was developed focusing on the reduction of the number of motorized trips to the University, as well as the amount of CO2 generated by them. Here we analyze the dynamics of ridesharing, using the system data, and also try to observe the role it may play towards the promotion of integration in the UFRJ community.

summary This paper discusses the evolution of an interface used to introduce eletronics in the foundation design course at the School of Architecture at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil. The use of this interface by the students triggers the discussion of the possibilities of new technologies in architecture and initiates a tactical learning process in which the students are responsible for the very content they are learning. This interface introduces the discussion of interactivity and indeterminism, crucial to the development of the two main works of the course: an individual interactive object and an urban interactive intervention in group.

summary The architecture of the digital age yields complex shapes exemplars which once divulged on the internet, they become architectonic references. This article aims to discuss the influence of the reference projects analysis process (APR) in the projects generation within the current teaching. A comparative assessment of undergraduate final project has been carried out so as to identify the APR methods applied. From the application of the theory – Social Construction of Technologies (SCOT), the 05 facts that became evident show the controversy between the APR teaching processes and the interdisciplinary knowledge and abilities needed for the generation of complex and/or performative shapes.

title A Shape Grammar to Generate Loggia Rucellai
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2013.791
source Open Systems: Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA 2013) / Singapore 15-18 May 2013, pp. 791-800
summary This article shows the result of generating a 3d model of Loggia Rucellai in Florence using a shape grammar from Leon Batista Alberti’s treatise De Re Aedificatoria and it is a test bed for further generations of buildings using Alberti’s rules. It shows the accuracy of such grammar to help tracing the degree of influence of Alberti’s treatise in Renaissence Portuguese architecture. Rucellai palace facade ornaments and its interior loggia where used to analyze and compare the Loggia generation accuracy. A Grasshopper script is used for the automation of the rules derivation. An evaluation process is presented and its use aims to better understand the deviations between the treatise and the Loggia grammars.

title Arte da Manipulação: As Interações entre Fotografia e Arte na Era Digital [The Art of Manipulation: The interaction between Photography and Art in the Digital Era]
source SIGraDi 2013 [Proceedings of the 17th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-7051-86-1] Chile - Valparaíso 20 - 22 November 2013, pp. 655 - 658
summary The questions on this article point to a different understanding of the image with its different medias, more specifically where the digitalization and manipulation of the image unfocussed the once sharp and clear frontiers between photography and painting. The contemporary visual artists share a desire for the impurity and contagion in the relations between the photographic and the pictorial. The works alternate themselves between these bases besides exploring new relationships between them. It is not important anymore how an image derives into another, and today the term image manipulation can be applied for both photography and painting.

summary This paper presents preliminary results from an outgoing research about the Scholarship Program on Technological Development and Innovation (PIBITI), in which we focused the potentiality of Augmented Reality (AR) application on documentation of the architectural heritage according to the UNESCO principles. We took as the object of study of the “Quarteirão dos Trapiches”, one of the historic buildings in Laranjeiras, Sergipe, Brazil, and we reconstructed it digitally with Augmented Reality and subsequently generate a QR Code information associated with this building, available on a website. In this context, this work highlight the potential application of architectural heritage documentation in AR, where discourse about the digital processing RA we use, and the association of this digital model with a history of the building. Finally, we present our conclusions on the use of RA in shareholders highlighting the advantages of three-dimensional visualization of architectural heritage, in an interactive, dynamic and low cost of deployment, pondering the importance of encouraging a policy of initiating development activities and technological innovation to digital architectural documentation.

summary Tomorrow’s architects will need to deal more confidently and skillfully with scientific and technological innovations in their field, e.g., parametric design, building physics, construction robotics, home automation, etc. Architecture students today must understand how things work and absorb some of the basic principles and techniques involved in their design, construction or operation. Now students need to build back some of that analytical, logical, critical, and analogical thinking that may have atrophied due to a traditional architectural education. Playing with toy construction kits for building automatic control and mobile robot models, does the job without losing the architect´s approach and attitude.

summary Simulation programs are an important tool to reduce building energy demands. However, there are difficulties that limit the use of these applications including the understanding and interpretation of the results. Due to the uncertainty regarding the reading and interpretation of results leading to design decisions, we propose a graphical display analysis, both scientific and information, charts, tables, diagrams, etc. Which apply to both energy simulation tools as complementary programs. It seeks to establish what tools have the greatest impact in the analysis process and how it influences the design decisions.

title Building Elements Re-usability Optimization - Design Decision Support Using a Case-Base of Building Information Models and Semantic Fingerprints
source Global Design and Local Materialization[Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Futures / ISBN 978-3-642-38973-3] Shanghai, China, July 3-5, 2013, pp. 295-305.
summary The complexity of the requirements on buildings is continuously increasing and thus, often confronting designers with interdisciplinary problems, reaching far beyond the traditional challenges and methods of architecture and engineering. Moreover, designers are often required to take decisions, when most of the information and knowledge is still missing or to be generated. In the context of sustainable building design, the re-usability of building elements and the optimisation for exchangeability is crucial for the achievement of two of the main goals: efficient use of material resources and waste reduction. The scope of this work in progress is describing requirements for case-based decision support in order to optimise building element re-usability, create an analysis of explicit re-usability indicators (e.g. “connection liberation”, “modularity” or “life span collision”) and to identify retrieval strategies. A proposal to support decision making processes by retrieving existing design solutions graph representations as well as the use of building information models are also described.

summary This article presents the formal results obtained from the same project, defined at the initial stage, modeled in three different CAD systems, exported and prototyped in two different types of three-dimensional printer. These digital systems have varying degrees of precision, can result in rapid prototyping different from the original virtual model, and this could frustrate the user's initial expectations, due to the need of modeling rework. The proper use of these tools can be helpful, since the beginning of the design process, with quick and reliable information, regarding the formal intent of the architect.
