title Programação em plataforma BIM e a Norma de Desempenho Brasileira: Desenvolvimento de uma aplicação para estimativa de performance acústica em projetos arquitetônicos [BIM platform programming and Brazilian Performance Standard: Development of an application to estimate acoustic performance in architectural design]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.423-428
summary The Brazilian Performance Standard (NBR 15.575/2013 – Housing Buildings – Performance) is changing the design process of residential buildings, imposing new acoustic performance criteria. In this Context, the present paper proposes the programming of a Revit plug-in for verifying sound insulation of walls between environments, collecting information of the building’s model from a parameter database, calculating values of the elements’ sound reduction index and allowing to ponder constructive systems’ performance. The application aims to amplify productivity of designers and to provide greater control over technological solutions, assisting in the compliance with performance criteria.

title Sonic Domes – Solving Acoustic Performance of Curved Surfaces by Interfacing Parametric Design, Structural Engineering and Acoustic Analysis
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2013.529
source Open Systems: Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA 2013) / Singapore 15-18 May 2013, pp. 529-538
summary This paper addresses the acoustic performance of complex curved surface geometries that are commonly known to pose problems of sound concentration, thus affecting speech intelligibility and audience experience in spaces of temporal arts performance. It reviews an open system of design research in which parametric design process, structural analysis and acoustic analysis are deployed to improve the sound of ellipsoidal structures in relation to sound source and audience positions, by adapting the height, dimension and centre point of a dome structure, consequently improving the acoustic behaviour of the performance space. The paper discusses an iterative design, analysis and optimization processes, in which a number of generative form variations were developed in Grasshopper, and reworked in McNeel Rhino, tested in engineering software (Strand7), and evaluated in acoustic simulation (ODEON). This allowed an interdisciplinary team to develop, test and evolve a design proposal that shows one solution for avoiding sound concentration and consequently improving acoustic performance in complex intersecting and curved geometries of a multifunctional building.

title A Computational Method for Integrating Parametric Origami Design and Acoustic Engineering
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2013.2.289
source Stouffs, Rudi and Sariyildiz, Sevil (eds.), Computation and Performance – Proceedings of the 31st eCAADe Conference – Volume 2, Faculty of Architecture, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, 18-20 September 2013, pp. 289-295
summary This paper proposes a computational form-finding method for integrating parametric origami design and acoustic engineering to find the best geometric form of a concert hall. The paper describes an application of this method to a concert hall design project in Japan. The method consists of three interactive subprograms: a parametric origami program, an acoustic simulation program, and an optimization program. The advantages of the proposed method are as follows. First, it is easy to visualize engineering results obtained from the acoustic simulation program. Second, it can deal with acoustic parameters as one of the primary design materials as well as origami parameters and design intentions. Third, it provides a final optimized geometric form satisfying both architectural design and acoustic conditions. The method is valuable for generating new possibilities of architectural form by shifting from a traditional form-making process to a form-finding process.

title BIM for thermal performance analysis in Minha Casa Minha Vida Program buildings
source SIGRADI 2015 [Proceedings of the 19th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - vol. 1 - ISBN: 978-85-8039-135-0] Florianópolis, SC, Brasil 23-27 November 2015, pp. 25-29.
summary The Minha Casa Minha Vida institutional housing program aims to build millions of residences in Brazilian cities. This situation decreases the building quality as the Federal Government, who founds the program, demands very low costs, so it is even more complicate to achieve quality enhancement. To solve this situation, many regulations have been instituted and, in 2013, ABNT published NBR 15575, a regulation regarding housing building performance, including aspects such as thermal, acoustic and maintenance performance. This paper aims to study thermal analysis section and the possibility to use BIM to achieve accurate data about thermal performance.

title FabPOD: An Open Design-to-Fabrication System
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2013.251
source Open Systems: Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA 2013) / Singapore 15-18 May 2013, pp. 251-260
summary Digital workflows from the design to the production of buildings have received significant recent attention in architectural research. The need for both integrated systems for design collaboration (Boeykens and Neuckermans, 2006) and clear and flexible communication flows for non-standard fabrication outcomes have been identified as fundamental (Scheurer, 2010). This paper reports on the development of a digital “design system” for the design and prototyping of an acoustic enclosure for meetings in a large open work environment, theFabPod. The aim was to keep this system open for temporal flexibility in as many aspects of the finalisation of the design as possible. The system provides novel examples of both integrated collaboration and clear communication flow.  (1) Acoustics is included as a design driver in early stages through the connection of digital simulation tools with design models. (2) Bi-directional information flows and clear modularisation of workflow underpins the system from design through to fabrication and assembly of the enclosure. Following the completion and evaluation of the FabPod prototype, the openness of the system will be tested through its application in subsequent design and prototyping iterations. Design development will respond to performance testing through user engagement methods and acoustic measurement.

title Wiring to the Sky
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.acadia.2013.093
source ACADIA 13: Adaptive Architecture [Proceedings of the 33rd Annual Conference of the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) ISBN 978-1-926724-22-5] Cambridge 24-26 October, 2013), pp. 93-100
summary As architectural design methodologies focus increasingly on the production of dynamic form, the means to actuate these forms, the input that fuels parametric processes, analytical form-generating techniques and responsive controls is of primary concern. In the virtual test beds where systems are developed, inputs are often ad-hoc, based on crude assumptions of the environment, or disconnected from the physical environment entirely.Inverting a technique originally developed to illuminate virtual objects with light captured from real (physical) environments, this project explores image-based lighting as a means of detailed environmental light sensing. The objective of the project is to demonstrate the application of High Dynamic Range (HDR) image data acquired continuously in the physical world as signal input to inform, actuate and evaluate responsive solar control and daylighting systems. As a proof of concept, a virtual hemispherical dome consisting of 145 apertures is controlled to respond in real time to continuous image-based measurements of sky luminance, seeking a defined set of daylighting and solar control objectives. The paper concludes by discussing the implications of incorporating real-world environmental data in the development of dynamic form.

title Performance Driven Design and Design Information Exchange
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.ecaade.2013.2.117
source Stouffs, Rudi and Sariyildiz, Sevil (eds.), Computation and Performance – Proceedings of the 31st eCAADe Conference – Volume 2, Faculty of Architecture, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, 18-20 September 2013, pp. 117-126
summary This paper presents a performance driven computational design methodology through introducing a case on parametric structural design. The paper describes the process of design technology development and frames a design methodology through which engineering, -in this case structural- aspects of architectural design could become more understandable, traceable and implementable by designers for dynamic and valid performance measurements and estimations. The research further embeds and customizes the process of topology optimization for specific design problems, in this case applied to the design of truss structures, for testing how the discretized results of Finite Elements Analysis in topology optimization can become the inputs for designing optimal trussed beams or cantilevers alternatives. The procedures of design information exchange between generative, simulative and evaluative modules for approaching the abovementioned engineering and design deliverables are developed and discussed in this paper.

summary The architectural documentation is a means of perpetuating the memory for future generations, traditional techniques applied in most studies conducted in Brazil, using direct measurements on the monument. The Photogrammetry, like lifting technique, allows metric and morphological recovery of an object without direct contact with it, and as a product of 2D - orthophotos. The focus of this work is the automatic vectorization of orthophotos, presenting experiments done with software for automatic feature extraction from orthophotos, aiming to test tools and procedures that can speed up the process for generating drawings refund.
