summary This article analyses the possibilities of expansion of the museum's exhibition space for the urban environment and the new relationships through the development of digital maps and augmented reality geolocated layers. The case study is the Guide of Nomadic Monuments (Guia dos Monumentos Nômades) organized for the exhibition Memory of Amnesia (Memória da Amnésia) that discussed the movement and displacement of statues through the last decades in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The experience of the project is presented from the point of view of the methodological design research, thinking the interface of the city as a backdrop for several experimentations with art collections.

summary This paper presents and discusses the research, design and construction of the urban furniture "Trançado", permanently located at Largo da Batata, a public space in S?o Paulo, Brazil. The project was accomplished using computational design processes as parametric modeling and digital fabrication of prototypes. Stakeholders from different areas were involved: professionals, organizations and citizens. The article contributes discussing and describing the technical features. Above all, it produces inputs for reflection and progress of the application of computational design in architecture.

summary This article analyses some of the proposals produced in the late 1970´s by the American contemporary artist Dan Graham, in which he uses technical means to investigate the audience´s perception and behavior. The questions raised highlight reciprocity phenomena and identity constructions – factors that affect our experience and behavior in contemporary cities daily life. All of these issues derive from Graham´s investigations of the main information and communication technologies (media) produced at that time, and which continue to offer reflections on current relationship between technical means and the subject – that is, his/her condition as audience, observer, spectator or user.

summary This paper expounds the teaching strategies used to introduce architecture students in the craft of design in the course Taller de Proyecto 1. These strategies are based on experiential mappings constructed from different digital resources allowing constantly confront design with real life, in order to maintain, throughout the process, a sensitive and precise relationship between reality and experience. It concludes that these methodologies strengthen the autonomy of students, developing a valuable reconnection with the way they look and transform the world, validating the premise that the act of design is an innate human act and not necessarily an erudite one.

summary Generative Design (GD) is a valuable asset for architecture because it provides opportunities for innovation and improvement in the design process. Despite its availability for Computer-Aided De- sign (CAD), there are few applications of GD within the Building In- formation Modelling (BIM) paradigm, and those that exist suffer from portability issues. A portable program is one that will not only work in the application it was originally written for, but also in others with equivalent results. This paper proposes a solution that explores porta- ble GD in the context of BIM. We also propose a set of guidelines for a programming methodology for GD, adapted to the BIM paradigm. In the end, we evaluate our solution using a practical example.

summary The paper analyses the emerging senses from the Smart Cities phenomenon, using as background Lemos (2017), Maia (2013), Rozestraten (2016), Söderström, Paache & Klauser (2014) and evaluating the speeches found in the SmartCity Expo Curitiba. We identified three basic senses: the binary utopia/ficcion, business and informational city, discussed by philosophers such as Foucault (2017), Lévy (2011) e Harvey (2014). The results outline the importance of political role of technology and adverts that it must not be controlled by business. Finally, the paper concludes that the smartest technology is one that opens space to the inclusion of greater human expressivity and subjectivity, not inducing a space of control.

summary The creation can be considered as co-creation in both shared operations from interventions linked to the presence of the other. In virtual environments and interconnected in the Web, post-digital environments, these activities are provided in a unique way. Certain proyectual practices framed in Design Thinking, are stimulated by a proactive action in this direction. In particular, as in the case of Speculative Design, which explores implications of what is not reality yet, and links new technologies, scientific applications and aesthetic trends. In this direction we present teaching practices, next to Media-Labs modalities. They were realized by architecture students. They were focused in re-inserts, re-functionalizations and re-significations of the Casa del Puente, Mar del Plata, emblematic building of latin american modernism. The experience, with mostly positive result, was analyzed and evaluated according to co-creativity indicators. We conclude that these experiences rub the expressive and creative disciplinaries boundaries of Architecture career, and are close to transdisciplinar concept of Art Thinking.

summary We present here the first results of an academic field of research, developed by a working group of GEPTC, Landscape Study Group, Land and Culture, which brings together teachers and students from UNITAU (Universidade de Taubaté) and Centro Universitário Belas Artes de Sao Paulo. Combine traditional activities of research, collective and community, involving students of Architecture and Urban Planning courses (UNITAU and Belas Artes), to generate and test the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to produce public shapefiles. From these shapefiles expected to generate three-dimensional modeling of Vila Edmundo and Vila Mariana to be the basis for exercise of urban intervention projects, aided by algorithms using Rhinoceros and Grasshopper, activity planned for the second stage of propositional character. The shapefiles made cooperatively and for public use, constitute a didactic and pedagogical experience of great interest to teaching, research and extension.

summary Generic grammars are a means to describe and generate designs in different domains with different abstraction levels. Simple mechanisms can generate a complex variety of solutions within different types, among a coherence of similar styles. This paper describes the process of defining a generic grammar for wood frame multipurpose chair design from two specific grammars that define individual styles of two particular designers. This research is part of a larger one that comprehends the development of a multipurpose chair design tool. The combination of the two specific grammars generates designs from two specific styles, a commons style, a hybrid style and new styles. Results also comprise the characterization of the styles by the analysis of rules and parameters.

summary Due to climate change and the problematic amount of waste and CO2 emissions in the construction industry, non-human organisms and sustainable solutions are key motivators of the study. This paper focuses on developing a bioreceptive (Guillitte, 1995) composite suitable for additive manufacturing, composed to support growth of various organisms. It investigates key properties which have shown to be beneficial for promoting biological growth, such as water absorption, water permeability, humidity, and surface texture. The study evaluates the effect of two groups of clay-based waste additives, wooden sawdust (Arslan, et al., 2021) and sediment material sourced from local tunnel excavation in Prague. Simultaneously the need for intelligent reintegration and waste use is prevalent. Additive fabrication offers the ability to test a variety of composites and (re-)integrate them into the manufacturing processes. Current approach explores how to design artificial environments/skins for greenery and small life with the potential to improve both diversity and survivability while maintaining a better climate in its immediate surroundings. Bioreceptive design has the potential to improve the quality of the urban environment and bring new aesthetic influences into it (Cruz and Beckett 2016, p. 51-64).

summary Physical Activity, which is essential for maintaining a healthy condition, is often a non-parallel particular in the curriculum of early adolescent education. Isolated to recess and gym class, or situated as separate extra-curricular activities, its metrics tend to be behavioral and external to cognitive activities. In order to address recent reductions in physical activity for adolescents, which the White House has interpreted as directly related to increased obesity rates in pre-adolescents over the last decade, a series of interventions within learning environments, class space, and facility syntax were developed to introduce activity breaks throughout the class day. This paper posits the findings from hybrid computer aided visualization and simulation tools used in defining adequate space for adolescent physical activity in the classroom. Primarily the research questions the volume of space attributable to each student based on the size of the classroom and number of students per academic year. The findings develop both the hybrid digital systems that map geographies of movement in adolescent bodies and work to facilitate an understanding of physical activity ecologies that can be prescribed to varying components in an educational institution. Additionally the findings contribute to multiple speculative apparatus intent on redefining class space, by situating certain physical activities with specific spatial modifications. In turn, establishing a formal agenda for situating activities in these conditions and determining the plausibility of devices in educational institutions that can encourage movement.

summary The last few years have seen an increase in the interest to bring living systems into the process of design. Work with living systems, nonetheless, presents several challenges. Aspects such as access to specialists’ labs, samples of living systems, and knowledge to conduct experiments in controlled settings become barriers which prevent designers from developing a direct, material engagement with the material. In this paper, we propose a design methodology which combines development of experiments in laboratory settings with the use of what we call material proxies, which refer to materials that operate in analogue to some of the behaviors observed in the target organism. We will propose that combining material proxies with basic scientific experimentation constitutes a form of direct material engagement, which encourages richer exploration of the design domain. We will develop this argument by reporting on our experience in designing and delivering the primer component of a themed design studio, structured around bacterial spores as hygroscopic components of building facades. The six-week design project asked students to consider the behavior of bacterial spores, and to imagine a number of systems in which they could be employed as actuators of a membrane system that responded to fluctuations in humidity. The module is interesting in that it negotiates some of the challenges often faced by designers who want to develop a material engagement with living systems, and to produce informed speculations about their potential in architectural design.

summary This paper describes an on-going research that unites two distinct and seemingly unrelated interests. One is Arabic calligraphy and the other is parametric architecture. The effort is to integrate these interests and, in doing so, balance cultural issues with technological ones, traditional with contemporary and spiritual with material. Moreover, this paper is inspired by Arabic calligraphy and its influence on Zaha Hadid’s designs; it is invigorated by parametric systems and their capacity as a source of architectural forms. This paper will observe the rising importance of computation technologies to architecture, which has always been a form of negotiation between ‘function and fiction’ and ‘force and form’. The paper proposes a Parametric Calligraphic Machine that simultaneously produces, connects and separates calligraphic surfaces, calligraphic images and calligraphic reality. Therefore, the goal is to examine this hypothesis in order to produce a set of techniques, tools and methods that inform the three-dimensional design process of Arabic calligraphy’s contemporary possibilities by addressing a process description rather than a state description of creating calligraphic images and calligraphic surfaces. The theoretical approach highlights issues pertaining to calligraphy, spatiality, translation, generative systems, parametric design, visual structure, force and form.

summary Building Performance simulation is escalating towards design optimization worldwide utilizing computational and advanced tools. Egypt has its plan and agenda to adopt new technologies to mitigate energy consumption through various sectors. Energy consumption includes electricity, crude oil, it encompasses renewable and non-renewable energy consumption. Egypt Electricity (EE) consumption by sector percentages is residential (47%), industrial (25%) and commercial (12%), with the remainder used by government, agriculture, public lighting and public utilities (4%). Electricity building consumption has many divisions includes HVAC systems, lighting, Computers and Electronics and others. Lighting share of electricity consumption can vary from 11 to 15 percent in mixed buildings as in our case study which definitely less that the amount used for HVAC loads. This research aims at utilizing shape morphogenesis on facades using geometric shape grammar to enhance daylighting while blocking longwave radiations causing heat stress. Mixed-use building operates in daytime more than night which emphasizes the objective of this study. Results evaluation is referenced to LEED v4.1 and ASHRAE 90.1-2016 window-to-wall ratio calibration and massive wall description. Geometric morphogenesis relies on three main parameters; Pattern (Geometry Shape Grammar: R1, R2, and R3), a reference surface to map from, and a target surface to map to which is the south-western façade of the case study. Enhancing Geo-morph rule is to guarantee flexibility due to the rotation of sun path annually with different azimuth and altitude angles and follow LEED V4.1 enhancements of opaque wall percent for building envelope.
