source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.198-206
summary This project intends to introduce the maker culture into traditional education. The goal is to make technology teaching available in elementary education in a fast, cheap and egalitarian way, seeking to democratize its access and use it to integrate maker culture's principles into traditional school. For that several existing makerspaces and fab labs programs’ were studied to identify the core activities and equipments to support this proposal. Its contribution is an adaptable modular system with a demountable construction platform to foster customized spaces. The system is manufactured to enable the expansion and retraction of the structure allowing its future reuse.

summary Aiming the application of digital fabrication in the production of architectural structures, the experimentation described in this paper has focused on the production of joints of gantry components machined in a CNC Router. Our goals are, in the long terms, to reduce costs in the production of social housing through the application of technologies already consolidated in other areas of knowledge. Thus, the article will describe the production of a real-scale prototype of a part of the structure of a residential unit, adapting an Open Source construction system (Wikihouse).

title Programação em plataforma BIM e a Norma de Desempenho Brasileira: Desenvolvimento de uma aplicação para estimativa de performance acústica em projetos arquitetônicos [BIM platform programming and Brazilian Performance Standard: Development of an application to estimate acoustic performance in architectural design]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.423-428
summary The Brazilian Performance Standard (NBR 15.575/2013 – Housing Buildings – Performance) is changing the design process of residential buildings, imposing new acoustic performance criteria. In this Context, the present paper proposes the programming of a Revit plug-in for verifying sound insulation of walls between environments, collecting information of the building’s model from a parameter database, calculating values of the elements’ sound reduction index and allowing to ponder constructive systems’ performance. The application aims to amplify productivity of designers and to provide greater control over technological solutions, assisting in the compliance with performance criteria.

summary This paper describes an experience in a Graduate course Architecture and Urbanism that used computational tools to analyze urban quality – considering form, uses, density and spatial configuration (based on visual and fields) – in different urban areas in the city of João Pessoa. Understanding that the city is a problem in organized complexity, different aspects condition the quality of use of spaces and reveal urban dynamics. Urban analysis aided by computational tools revealed successful in characterizing different problems and potentialities that can lay the foundation for interventions with more urban quality.

source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.114-122
summary The challenges on the ways of producing and teaching architecture, in the face of new digital technologies, led us to develop guidelines for updating didactic strategies in the area of teaching geometry and graphic representation in architecture courses. In order to do so, it is proposed to use the SWOT matrix as a way to cross-check what is being discussed. To identify the factors of the matrix, in the research environment we identify Opportunities and Threats and, using as examples the works of the Sagrada Familia Temple and the Guggenheim Museum, we identify Strenghts and Weaknesses.

summary The term Building Information Model emerged in 1992. It has evolved over time and has its meaning currently associated with an object-oriented modeling technology and an associated set of processes to produce, communicate and analyze building models. Its origin is related to several other, older terms. This paper registers the evolution of BIM and related definitions over time by means of a systematic literature review. We present a list of BIM-related terms and their meanings, organized by date of emergence, and charts showing which ones are most used over time, contributing to better understanding of the meaning of BIM.

summary The increased need for optimization in design processes has led BIM software users to customize their projects by the use of programming and external applications. This paper presents the state of art of Revit plug-ins by means of an explorative, quantitative study of current repositories and the proposition of a categorization system to identify to which purposes the tools are being developed. Then, through a questionnaire to AEC professionals, assessment on the use and necessity of the tools is made by comparing the user experience with the proposed state of art categories.

summary The Dois Irmãos State Park, located in Recife, Brazil, is an area dedicated to research, environmental education and captive breeding, composed by a zoologic and vast rainforest area. Despite the educational and conservational purposes, the hostility and poor conditions of the zoo’s captivities may negatively affect animals, mentally and physically, which contradicts concepts of preservation and sustainability. This work, hence, investigates the architectural capacity of improving captivity spaces by promoting integration between species, natural and built environment. It explores concepts of morphoecology, computational design techniques and fibrous tectonics strategies in order to create adequate ecosystems essentials for encouraging ecological resilience.

summary This article discusses existing resilience level of “dynamic Information Systems” related to “relation models” adopted by main theoretical authors at Design Information field. The main work objective was to recognize and to relate “relation models” with resilience levels. These models has exhibited, on development of “dynamic information systems”, emphasis in producer subject principles over interpreter subject requests. However, factors resulting of “relation models” help to arise a set of resilience attributes that may be used to develop systems with higher resilience level.

summary An instrument with high data-processing capacity capable of developing design solutions not previously viewed by the human intellect, should not be seen as a mere design tool. In a world encoded by the virtualization of human relations and the definitive change in the relationship between subject and object, it is the role of the architect to understand what would be his true positioning in a shared design process with a computing device. This article intends to be the beginning of a comprehensive research between theoretical and pratical aspects on the relations established between the agents involved in an algorithmic process of creation in architecture.
