title La enseñanza de BIM en Chile, el desafío de un cambio de enfoque centrado en la metodología por sobre la tecnología. [BIM education in Chile, the challenge of a shift of focus centered on methodology over technology.]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.470-478
summary This article presents the level of adoption of BIM in Chile referring to recent studies carried out in the country, demonstrating that there has not been a significant increase in the use of this methodology by the industry. According to the analysis of international cases on educational frameworks, the authors argue that the development of a national education strategy for BIM with a focus on defining BIM capabilities required to assume the national mandate 2020, along with promoting collaborative work environments and active learning methodologies would be very beneficial.

title La implementación de la Metodología Building Information Modeling (BIM) para edificios existentes en Chile [La implementación de la Metodología Building Information Modeling (BIM) para edificios existentes en Chile]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.528-533
summary BIM technology is currently being implemented in the construction industry, though it is still underdeveloped in relation to Facility Management (FC) of extant buildings. There is a strong potential for future development due to the visualization and data analysis capabilities of this technology, amongst others (Becerik-Gerber, Jazizadeh, Li, & Calis, 2012). This research investigates how BIM can be implemented in existing buildings currently in operation. Using a public facility at the University of Bio-Bio as a case study, conclusions are drawn with respect the capabilities of BIM in order to optimize maintenance and operation of existing buildings.

title El proceso proyectivo colaborativo en BIM: Aproximaciones a partir de la semiótica de C. S. Peirce [The collaborative projective process in BIM: Approaches from the semiotics of C. S. Peirce]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.39-44
summary This paper studies the process of conception in BIM architecture, using concepts of Peircian semiotics, in order to apply it in the design oriented to the resilience. There are three ways of designing in Revit Architecture software: (i) the conceptual mass, which demonstrates an abductive-iconic type of reasoning and a stereotomic process. (ii) Object-based modeling, which demonstrates a deductive/inductive-symbolic and a tectonic procedure and (iii) collaborative modeling, which manages to initiate a parallel process between different professionals and the community. These processes are understood in a semiotic relationship, in which are present signs and reasoning of different hierarchies.

title Modelos BIM como estratégia de valorização profissional [BIM Models as a Strategy for Professional Valuation]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.448-452
summary This article discusses the Brazilian architecture professional devaluation, identifying factors that contribute to a process of disqualification. It provides the basis for possible reflections by architecture councils. Authors pointed out that the BIM evolution would lead to unexplored fields, such as standards to increase project quality. The study suggests the development of an instrument that certifies services, methodologies and teams positively positioned in the contemporary demands of the AEC sector. By incorporating existing standards, the technology is justified as the basis, allowing this quality to be extended to contractors, reinforcing the multidisciplinary character with its involved professional’s responsibility.

title Modelado paramétrico y fabricación digital para la concepción de edificios de museo ambientalmente adecuados para el clima subtropical húmedo de Brasil. [Parametric modeling and digital manufacturing for the conception of museum buildings environmentally suitable for the subtropical wetland climate of Brazil.]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.257-261
summary Museums exhibit a growing development in the world, promoting buildings with significant expressions. Nevertheless, the relation of the building and its environmental performance is fundamental in the conception of new buildings. The problem originates in the early stages of design, where it is not possible to evaluate it environmentally. The methodology uses three art museum buildings in the humid subtropical climate of Brazil, whose geometries are completely different. After analyzing and relating its performance to its environmental and geometric characteristics a parametric modeling tool is proposed and the digital manufacture as a product of the process has been carried out.

summary This research presents results of visual modeling strategies introduction, associated with spatial ideas, being all referred to the work done in the Architectural Design Studio 1-2 at the University of Chile. The applied project methodology seeks to lay the foundations of an incremental draft strategy, which allows a smooth transition between the analog conceptual stages to a digital inclusion of similar criteria of visual modeling in early stages of architectural design. That methodology allows to students to decode their concepts to digital shapes, using point, lines, and triangles as analog-digital translators for each proposal.

title El fotomontaje en sección como herramienta del proyecto de paisaje [The photomontage in section as a tool of the landscape project]
source SIGraDi 2017 [Proceedings of the 21th Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics - ISBN: 978-956-227-439-5] Chile, Concepción 22 - 24 November 2017, pp.168-173
summary In landscape design a vertical section is a representation that, comparatively, is less used than in architecture. However, given the current complexity of urban intervention, the section is a graphical tool of analytical and communicative interest to complement the information that plants give us. The paper is structured in three parts: the first presents the theoretical-conceptual framework of the research, in the second, some notable examples are studied, and in the third, a photomontage exercise is carried out in a course with students of landscaping.

summary The Brazilian Performance Standard (NBR 15.575/2013 – Housing Buildings – Performance) is changing the design process of residential buildings, imposing new acoustic performance criteria. In this Context, the present paper proposes the programming of a Revit plug-in for verifying sound insulation of walls between environments, collecting information of the building’s model from a parameter database, calculating values of the elements’ sound reduction index and allowing to ponder constructive systems’ performance. The application aims to amplify productivity of designers and to provide greater control over technological solutions, assisting in the compliance with performance criteria.

summary The paper discusses the intersection of two main agendas for Chilean governments that are BIM (Building Information Modeling) and BEAM (Building Environmental Assessment Methods). It shows the state-of-the-art in both fields in Chile as well as in the world, it discusses some previous efforts of integration; it found some new opportunities for collaboration and finally proposes a new framework that brings together BIM and BEAM. The development of the method includes BIM Models, databases and spread sheets for building energy Certification, it finally provides a semi-automatic environment where architects model their design in BIM and this Information is used as an input to the certification process. Potentials and risk of this method are discussed.

summary We present a novel CAD/CAM apparatus and method for single-pass cutting of double-curved expanded polystyrene formworks. A rationalization approach was implemented using generic solvers in a popular free visual programming environment integrated into a well-known commercial CAD software, which allows finding elastica curve sections for processing double-curved NURBS surfaces. This procedure allows us to convert bending curves geometry into G-code coordinates for numerically controlling a flexible cutting hot-blade. A prototype 7-axis machine was experimentally validated in a series of cutting processes of EPS formworks to build a double-curved concrete pony wall.
