source SIGraDi 2012 [Proceedings of the 16th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Brasil - Fortaleza 13-16 November 2012, pp. 251-254
summary From the complex perspective of modern information society, knowledge and digital culture, we have detected limitations and obsolescente levels of much of the university educational system. We consider that teaching and learning reflect a beta protoparadigm state in constant construction. We value new ideas within the limits of education, communication and transmedia aesthetics, which contribute to the visibility of innovative practices and transformations. We reflect about necessary changes in the current education, from the diversification and reinvention of the use of educational technologies to liquid infrastructures. Our intention is to contribute to the conceptual frameworks development to fit sustainable strategies and result transferences towards classroom practices known as learning ecosystems.

source SIGraDi 2012 [Proceedings of the 16th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Brasil - Fortaleza 13-16 November 2012, pp. 263-267
summary Pedagogical tradition is to focus its curriculums in studies that encourage the students in mental mechanisms which are favorable to the acquisition of a thought supported in the visual language and in the workshop. Current information technologies have produced a displacement in the ways the young people know, operate and relate to the world. A definitively cognitive shift has been provoked from the traditional written semantic decoding to visual semantic decoding, different operational skills have acquired, and a shift of intersubjetive communications from the personal experiential space to the virtual space.

source SIGraDi 2012 [Proceedings of the 16th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Brasil - Fortaleza 13-16 November 2012, pp. 500-504
summary The folded compositions in architecture enable creatively rethink the methods and instruments of ideation and manufacturing. Displace conventional architectural graphic (Descriptive Geometry and Perspective) of autonomy and historical determinism that has characterized (obsessive stylistic control of the design object and spatial structure inherited under the canons of classical geometry). The material expression of these settings provides an important link between: the formal conceptualization, the digital geometric operation, its manufacturing and responsive review, similar to the design process used. At the same time reveals limitations of scale, materiality and design limitations, which condition the models implemented.

summary This paper discusses the potential of emerging digital representations of built environments coupled with agent-based modelling (ABM). A new set of urban transportation data is provided as an input which is the electric vehicles (EVs) population of one of the UK metropolitan areas. The study is a part of a PhD research that focuses on investigating computer-aided software to develop a virtual route for electric mobility in the North Sea Region. An overview of agent-based simulation platforms is discussed. Electric mobility system has particular paradigms that differ from conventional urban transport systems; a comparison is presented followed by the recommended approach of integrating the two techniques (visualization and simulation). Finally, the architecture of agents’ algorithm within the EVs network is presented through a case study of virtual Newcastle-Gateshead model.

title Generative synthesis systems: A framework
doi https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.caadria.2012.399
source Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia / Chennai 25-28 April 2012, pp. 399–408
summary Responses delivered by a generative synthesis system (GSS) vary between creative solutions and unusable outcomes. The type of GSS response is driven by many factors such as: the design context, designer’s interpretation, implementation environments, design language, and the GSS composition, among many factors. In this paper, we describe a GSS framework to provide a recipe for delivering responses, which can be qualified as solutions. The framework focuses on GSS composition. It includes descriptions for: building blocks, components, and building strategy. The framework is informed by generative design literature and by our experimentation. We present the framework through: a brief background to GSS, metrics, building blocks, components, and building strategy. We also show an example of GSS implementation and offer a brief discussion.

source SIGraDi 2012 [Proceedings of the 16th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Brasil - Fortaleza 13-16 November 2012, pp. 238-242
summary Even though most studio courses, in architecture and design curricula in LA, use web resources, their role in learning is not always fully clear and deeper understanding is required. Due to a prevailing approach based on practical reasoning in the studio, learning is usually assessed by focusing on the representation of the design object, rather than on the cognitive process in design thinking. This research examines online asynchronous communication during a studio project, searching evidence of design knowledge-building through a Community of Inquiry framework. It intends to provide better understanding of how teaching may influence cognitive processes in students.

summary In the field of Contemporary Esthetics is resumed the question of what is art and which are the readability conditions (reading). The questions relate to the displacement between representation and experimentation, beauty and esthetic experience, among others. In this context, we address the technology of poetry (Nancy (2012 [2013]) as technological exhibition that lets your experience the being of the object and become subjects. The corpus includes film and video (Kopystiansky 1996-97; Alys 2011 y Jaar 2013). The objective is to outline an analytical framework for thinking about the esthetic freedom of creation and the practical freedom of their recognition. (Wagner 2004).

source SIGraDi 2012 [Proceedings of the 16th Iberoamerican Congress of Digital Graphics] Brasil - Fortaleza 13-16 November 2012, pp. 74-78
summary Differently from other regions in the Planet, since 2010, in Latin America textual programming language (Rhinoscripting) is being replaced by its visual equivalent (Grasshopper). This is a consequence of our preference for an interactive platform, and because our design problems are not as complex, so we aim to control geometrical problems or aspects belonging to an product scale instead of an architectural one. Problems emerging when creating code could be improved by modifying and reusing existing solutions as a starting point, since learning would not be centered in the object but in the process of creating it, using a suitable instrument.
