Afterward architectural elements are introduced and we test the effects on the perceptions of different spaces. Therefore the effectiveness of these elements is verified in different types of space.

summary Nowadays we deal with a real revolution in the computer science. Present times explorers no longer look for information in vast library files but rather they surf on Internet. The technological progress in the realm of computer studies made “the fathers unable to keep pace with their children”. That’s one of the reasons why it is so difficult to introduce new techniques into the routinized designing process. The problem is that some know “what” and the others “how”. At the times when drawing pens were ousted by rapidographs, communication between different generations of designers was easier. Both of these tools are, in fact very similar. It is the other way with the new computer science technique, which consists of complicated systems not so easy to access because of various economical, emotional, routine and habitual reasons. Changes in the designing process go step by step, in a much slower pace than the progress in computer hardware and software. It is difficult to accept the fact in professional environment that computer technique can assist the designer as a medium.

title Real Space, Digital Perception: Formation of Spatial Experience Beyond Materiality

summary Space is perceived by cognitive operations in which particular elements are assigned spatial significance. Such operations are relatively similar to digitalization processes. An element’s attributes are translated to numerical data according to measuring systems and scales, so that they can be evaluated comparatively. Similarly, elements of the given world are perceptible as sensory stimulations that are registered to the sensory organs and then translated to data, which is comparable to the data of other elements. Sensory stimulators may derive from any element that is registered to the sensory organs, even those which we call as “virtual”, “artificial” and “fake,” for example the elements that are rendered digitally in the computer. With such a premise, the paper examines how such elements may also contribute in the formation of spatial perception. Consequently, the meaning as well as our common interaction with space is contested, along with the limits of reality itself.

title Activity-object oriented simulation on a visual environment

summary Although computer simulation has been applied to analyse and plan construction processes for decades, the practitioners in construction have still experienced difficulties in modelling. To model a construction process requires multiple types of modelling elements, and to verify the models requires comprehensive knowledge and experience. This paper discusses an activity object-oriented analysis method that incorporates the object-oriented approach with the graphical activity-based modelling methods that requires only one type of modelling element, and the activity object-oriented simulation strategy that effectively advances the activity-based simulation. The visual modelling capabilities and the easy-to-use animation function are also introduced, which respectively help model graphically complicated construction processes with one single element (activities) without the use of simulation programming and assist users, especially the non-specialists of the construction industry, in verifying the simulation models.

summary This research aims to assess the usage of urban equipment, particularly children's playgrounds in public squares. It employs a prototype using a VGA camera connected to a Raspberry Pi equipped with image learning algorithms. The unit functions autonomously, from data collection to processing, revealing information about the patterns of space utilization. This information is synthesized into a comprehensive spatio-temporal activity map illustrating playground equipment activity. This visual representation offers actionable insights for urban managers, spotlighting underutilized areas and informing strategies to improve child-centered recreational facilities. Conducted in Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, the prototype has successfully demonstrated its capability to capture and interpret data into relevant insights, the findings suggest that there are indications that the most frequently used equipment by children are those strategically located within the line of sight of adults.. Additionally, it highlighted that seating areas for accompanying adults are typically overcrowded, as adult behavior tends to be stationary compared to the more dynamic activity of children.

summary Planetary scale computation is evolving the way we digitize the physical urban space. The following research aims to provide an architectural response to the accelerating digitization of our physical world and societal life processes of economy and communications. It acknowledges the legitimate bias in the perceptual value of territories favored by the new Attention Economy of the Metaverse and Blockchain-based Virtual Environments. It proposes the analogy of a theme park derived from the distorted collective vision of today’s reality, of a reduced collection of favored attraction locations. The research provides first a review of contemporary studies related to the operation of the Attention Economy in the Metaverse, Web3 platforms, and Gamified Virtual Environments, as well as studies on recent architectural expressions or typologies of these spaces. A series of methodologies are described next to convey the impact of recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the creation of digital personas and worldmaking for this type of economy. The methodologies comprise a three-stage workflow based on data mining and curation, processing through AI-aided generative methods, and implementation with game engine environments, ultimately discussed regarding simulation and creative agency.

summary This paper proposes a "Human Aided Hand-Eye System (HAHES)" to aid the autonomous robot for "Digital Twin Model (DTM)" sampling and correction. HAHES combining the eye-to hand and eye-in hand relationship to build an online DTM datasets. Users can download data and inspect DTM by "Human Wearable XR Device (HWD)", then continuous updating DTM by back testing the probing depth, and the overlap between physics and virtual. This paper focus on flexible linear material as experiment subject, then compares several data augmentation approaches: from 2D OpenCV homogeneous transformation, autonomous robot arm nodes depth probes, to overlap judgement by HWD. Then we train an additive regression model with back-testing DTM datasets and use the gradient boosting algorithm to inference an approximate 3D coordinate datasets with 2D OpenCV datasets to shorten the elapsed time. After all, this paper proposes a flexible mechanism to train a vision-based autonomous robot by combing different hand-eye relationship, HWD posture, and DTM in a recursive workflow for further researchers.

summary The past decade has experienced a staggering rise of data-aided analysis that facilitate understanding the impact of socio-economic flux and socially oriented activities towards the quality and livability of space. Evaluating urban environments is not only important from the planners' perspective, but has larger implications for the residents themselves. In this paper we argue that the livability of a city or a neighborhood is not necessarily described by conventional, authoritative data, such as income, crime, education level etc., but the combination with ephemeral data layers, related to human perception and desire, can be more effective in capturing the dynamics of space. Implementing methods that are considered disassociated with urban analytics, we attempt to go beyond the conventions in understanding the dynamics that drive socio-economic phenomena and construct lived space. Our objective is to create methodologies of anticipating and evaluating urban environment by re-patterning different datasets and taking advantage of their combinatory potential.

summary The advent of Real Time Kinematic (RTK) Global Positioning System (GPS) positioning means that this technology can now be used for dynamic control and guidance applications. The paper outlines the recent advances in GPS technology, which have enabled RTK GPS to become a reality. Tests have been carried out in construction plant control and monitoring applications with a demonstrated precision of the order of a few millimeters. The results are compared with those achieved using a laser level and a digital automatic level.

summary We present here the first results of an academic field of research, developed by a working group of GEPTC, Landscape Study Group, Land and Culture, which brings together teachers and students from UNITAU (Universidade de Taubaté) and Centro Universitário Belas Artes de Sao Paulo. Combine traditional activities of research, collective and community, involving students of Architecture and Urban Planning courses (UNITAU and Belas Artes), to generate and test the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to produce public shapefiles. From these shapefiles expected to generate three-dimensional modeling of Vila Edmundo and Vila Mariana to be the basis for exercise of urban intervention projects, aided by algorithms using Rhinoceros and Grasshopper, activity planned for the second stage of propositional character. The shapefiles made cooperatively and for public use, constitute a didactic and pedagogical experience of great interest to teaching, research and extension.

summary Advances in computational modelling and digital fabrication have created both the need and ability for novel strategies of bringing digitally modeled doubly curved surfaces into reality. In this paper, we introduce airforming as a non-contact and formwork-free method for fabricating digitally designed surfaces through the iterative robotic application of heat and air pressure, coupled with sensory feedback. The process lies somewhere between incremental metal fabrication and traditional vacuum forming of plastics. Airforming does not add or subtract material or use any mold or formwork materials that would typically be discarded as waste. Instead, airforming shapes a plastic sheet through the controlled spatial application of heat and the control of pressure and vacuum within an airtight chamber beneath the material. Through our research, we develop and test a method for airforming through 3D scanning and point cloud analysis, evolutionary physics simulation solvers, and robotic-aided actuation and control of heating and pressure systems. Different variations and analysis and workflow methods are explored. We demonstrate and posit potential future applications for the airforming method.

summary Brick construction has a long and rich structural and aesthetic traditions in architecture, which can be traced back to the origins of our civilization. However, despite the remarkable works of Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Eladio Dieste or Alvar Aalto in the 20th century, the application of this construction process to address more irregular geometries is very difficult to be achieved by conventional manual means. In this context, the last decade assisted to emergence of robotic applications in architecture. While Gramazio & Kohler looked for solving non-standard brick structures, others, like the S.A.M. robot initiative, are interested in improving the productivity in the fabrication of regular brick structures. By surveying the recent advances on bricklaying automation, this paper is interested in reflecting on the actual role of manual brickwork. In doing so, the authors present the Brick Tower experiment developed at the DFL/CEAU/FAUP, where two different fabrications processes are critically compared: a robotic and a manual one, which is aided by a video projection technique. By describing and illustrating this experiment, the authors argue that it is possible to expand the traditional craft of bricklaying by devising simple strategies to increase the human capacity to understand and materialize more elaborated geometries. This research avenue can be relevant if one considers that manual work should remain the most common form of brickwork practice in the next decades.
