summary The evaluation of possibilities, ways and technologies used for the application of domotics in our country, Argentina, was continued. This design proposal evolved from the one of 2014. It was considered technologies and design improvements as for micro-architecture, inmotics, sustainability and parametric design, implementing them into an useful design for a specific urban interstitial space. The function answers to a sociologic requirement study of function and interactivity endorsed by polls. This project aims to be build, as it follows the laws that regulate this city.

summary Working in pairs is collective collaboration. The collective intelligence, crowdthinking and its variations are part of today's language. Based on this concept, we propose to fill empty spaces from the current communication of culture from Goverment of Córdoba. There is an information movement and events in conection to crowd. We propose a device, that broadcasts the contents of the hashtag: #quetenemoshoy, making it more popular, and in everyone's range. We set out a collaboration situation, with a concrete proposal, that includes dialogue with its surroundings. Articulating knowledge from different disciplines, between the goverment and the residents. Following neologism from Gutiérrez-Rubí y Freire (2013),we propose will be CITY-CROWD-CREATING.

summary We work in the technics and design advantages that are happening in the world, and in Argentina, around microarchitecture, applying these in concrete useful design proposals for urban spaces called intersticiales. Starting from pre-existings conditions of the place, it relation between the landscape, the sounds, and the climate to answer to them with the design. The proposal will be articulated and organized according to the plans and rules from the city of Córdoba. These typologies are designs of inmotic microarchitecture, in this case a health station , just in the entry of the Sarmiento park, a big gym without ceiling.

summary This paper presents the research and development of a concrete micro-architecture proposal, based on a useful design for an interstitial urban space.The typology is a hydration station in the doors of an urban park, the park Sarmiento of the city of Córdoba where many gymnasts converge. The space with inmotic technology is resilient, able to mutate to be more comfortable, and is able to offer water with use control to ration in case of urban emergency. Working with domotics allows us to optimize the management of resources and therefore increase the efficiency of the systems of use and control.

summary Due to the lack of experimentation with wood on a real scale, which is needed to generate design proposals and discuss aesthetic, spatial, and structural alternatives in a multidisciplinary way. An experimental workshop for architecture and engineering students was developed. To integrate design modeling, and fabrication, using the wood steam bending technique. It was explored following a collaborative methodology. The main results obtained included conceptualization sessions, prototyping, physical and digital modeling, and development of work strategies (base plan, scaffolding, production, assembly, iteration, adjustments, and detailing) until the proposal scope met the expectations. From this workshop, remains the challenge of converting empirical knowledge into more precise work parameters. The need to complement the design phases with parametric software modeling, structural analysis, and fabrication methods to open new teaching possibilities was identified.

summary Reticular systems are in many aspects a distinct taxonomy of volumetric geometries. In comparison with the conventional embodiment of a ‘volume’ that encapsulates a certain quantity of space with a shell reticular geometries emerge from the accumulation of micro elements to define a gradient of space. Observed in biological systems, such structures result from their material properties and formation processes as well as often ‘simple’ axioms that produce complex results. In micro or macro levels, from forest tree canopies to plant cell walls these porous volumes are not shaped to have a singular ‘solution’ for a purpose; they provide the fundamental geometric characteristics of a ‘line cloud’ that is simultaneously flexible in response to its environment, porous to other systems (light, air, liquids) and less susceptible to critical damage. The porosity of such systems and their volumetric depth also result in kinetic spatial qualities in a 4D architectural space. Built upon a ‘weaving’ organization and the high performance material properties of carbon fiber composite, this research focuses on a formal grammar that initiates the complex system of a reticular volume. A finite ‘lexical’ axiom is consisted of the basic characters of H, M and L responding to the anchor points on the highest, medium and lower levels of the extruding loom. The genome thus produces a string of data that in the second phase of programming are assigned to 624 points on the loom. The code aims to distribute the nodes across the flat line cloud and organize the sequence for the purpose of overlapping the tensioned strings. The virtually infinite results are then assessed through an evolutionary solver for confining an array of favorable results that can be then selected from by the designer. This research focuses on an approximate control over the fundamental geometric characteristics of a reticular system such as node density and directionality. The proposal frames the favorable result of the weave to be three-dimensional and volumetric – avoiding distinctly linear or surface formations.

summary This paper studies the process of parametric and algorithmic design, integrating structural analysis and design for the generation of complex geometric structures. This methodology is based on the Performative Model, where the shape is generated using performance criteria. In the approach, the development of complex structures is only possible by reversing the process of thinking to generate the form with established parameters for geometry, material and loading aspects. Thus, the structural engineer no longer only participates in the evaluation phase but also appears in the early stages, creating a process of exploration and production of common knowledge among architects and engineers. To research performance-based design, the development of a conceptual lattice for a wind tower is proposed. Thus, a system is made to generate geometries using Rhinoceros software, the Grasshopper plugin, and the VB programming language, integrated with stress analysis through the Scan & Solve plugin.

summary The underlying thesis of the research described in this paper is that imaginative, model-based explorations may help us better understand iconic architectural artefacts, such as cultural heritage projects. In order to systematically consider and study architectural artefacts, it is essential for academics to reach a level of clarity – and potentially even consensus – concerning the domains of architectural design that may be considered relevant and to question - often implicitly – shared conceptions. This paper intends to communicate the results and findings of an in-depth case-based exploration on the basis of ten design artefacts, using a specially developed conceptual framework. Furthermore, the aim was to draw conclusions concerning the benefits and potentials of this approach in the context of heritage-based architectural research in an academic environment.

summary EMOVERE, interdisciplinary project that aims at creating innovative interactive performance, brings together dance, sound and image. Bio-data related to emotions, heart and respiratory rate, are mediated by dancers and gives them control over music and video- mapping on stage. A creative process occurs through successive approaches, where technical possibilities are systematically explored until controlled, then body expression is lead by Alba Emoting, building an artistic discourse. Video-mapping is used for lighting purposes, creating a visual atmosphere for dancers. Fusion of media on stage creates synesthetic scenery where physical and digital aspects combine and interact in a codependent relationship.

summary The problem at hand is to ensure that the perception by means of Augmented Reality (AR) is hence reliable and opinions resulting from a Participatory Design (PD) mediated by this technology could be incorporated into the design solution. This paper presents the evaluation of multiple 3D models recognition in AR, with or without an auxiliary projection. Leisure area designs involve urban equipment of various dimensions that are visualized simultaneously. Therefore, it was necessary to verify if the participants were capable of recognizing them and which would be the best way to visualize: exclusively with the iPad screen or with the iPad associated with an external projection – to verify whether the visualization using an external projection would amplify the visualization area. The results obtained in the evaluation were used to improve the AR application and also, to develop guidelines for the AR use in a PD.

summary Many situations related to natural environment and human activities increase the risk related to housing and create a demand for rapid post-disaster solutions. The solutions implemented by both the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the local and national organizations should fulfill the requirements of the temporarily displaced populations. However post-disaster design faces many challenges in its process making the response always more complex. At the same time, computer-based design is a growing approach in both architectural practice and research. The research described in this paper aims to help in finding solutions to design issues by addressing the potential of computer-based architectural design support. It is applied to shelter and camp development and takes into account physical, contextual and climatic parameters. The outcome is a design process for shelter and camp, which has been validated by a parametric prototype experiment in a case study. This should support humanitarian teams and contribute to enhancing the quality of design as well as to reducing the time required for the design and construction processes.

summary This paper presents an Augmented Reality application intended to establish a link to site history, approaching cultural heritage issues simulating the metaphor of time tunnel. It presents an initiative to bring technology to the end user, in order to rescue the past through AR of a plaza with cultural importance that suffered intervention with time. The work was developed as an exercise of a Virtual Reality class in a Graduate Program. The class exercise involved understanding uses of AR, development of AR applications and user perception of the built environment through the augmented lenses provided by AR applications. The method proposed for the exercise was the field study developed in seven steps: AR scope definition, preliminary exploration, AR application formulation, data collection and user perception evaluation. Four AR applications were developed and evaluated: 360 panorama and an overlap image, 3D object, and video with historic information. On site, users demonstrated surprise with the experiment and no difficulty of use, however transposition to the significant record of a past time varied with AR application and simplification of implementation.

summary A common problem we share teachers today is the presence of smartphones and tablets in the classroom; these electronic devices generate distractions of its use for communication in social networks, games, and visits to Internet sites. These elements are at all times available to the student, which is why we raised the need to adapt some learning processes with their interaction. The intention is to demonstrate that these practices allow for the introduction of theoretical concepts and fundamentals related academic imagination, the design process and representation of the architectural project. The proposal linked with an increase of the professional needs that the architect faces, after their training, professional skills to perform in today’s job market.

summary In this paper we examine the adaptations cellular automata (CA) are typically subjected to when they are applied to architectural designing. We argue that, despite a number of earlier studies that portrayed CA as generic generative design tools, the transition from generic CA to specific design tools is not yet well understood. To describe this transition, we first examine this aspect in a number of previous studies relating CA to architectural design. In a following detailed analysis of an applied design case study, we trace similarities between findings made in the literature review to findings made in the case study and extend them with additional observations. We conclude with a summary of challenges and opportunities met by architectural designers employing and developing CA for design purposes.

summary We analyse the problem of creating didactic material for teaching and evaluating mathematics in the first year of a School of Architecture. By using visual programming, science professor used codes (formulae) to represent in a software their proposals, instead of drawing them themselves. Through this experience we create a database of codes with computational solutions that allows faculty to modify, reuse, visualise and print in the same platform that she students will use while developing their designs. In this way we aim to maximise the link between mathematics and design as fundamental base for the control of complex shapes.

summary The prevalent mode of shape grammar output is a two-dimensional drawing grammar. For architectural applications, these two- dimensional shape rules can hold a variety of interpretations in three-dimensional space. This work translates an existing grammar from a manual two-dimensional drawing grammar to an automated three-dimensional building grammar to explore the challenges and opportunities that this translation suggests in the larger context of shape computation. The case study considered here is a grammar interpreting John Portman’s architectural language as defined by the house Portman identifies as emblematic of his design principles, his 1964 personal residence Entelechy I.

summary The paper is a theoretical approach regarding digital architecture, performance and time. It tries to reflect on the philosophical taxonomy of time -cosmological, phenomenological and narrative- and how digitally conscious architectural design developed by architects, media artists, engineers and multidisciplinary teams address the engagement of the architectural space in real-time. The traditional static conception of architecture is altered through performativity and the ideals of permanence and endurance radically questioned. The research also constitutes a reflection on interaction, participation and performance in an ample sense with regard to performative architecture and some urban implications it may entail. Various examples addressing these topics mainly installed or built during the last decade exemplify the different issues that the paper reflects on. A critical reading of the installations and the intelligent-façades commented is posed to the reader together with the conceptual implications the different performative approaches involve and the goals they may achieve. The question remains if buildings instead of being or meaning should, more than ever, perform.

summary The research presented in this paper revolves around the experimental development of the morpho-structural potential of folded architectural structures made of wood. The aims are to develop an innovative system for timber used in sustainable construction and to increase the inventory of wood architectural tectonics. First, this article provides a characterization of the digital chain associated to the development of non-standard folded structures consisting of wood panels. The purpose is to study the architectural design process from parametric modeling (through CNC machining) and assembly operations to production by way of a full-scale experimental pavilion. Secondly, a number of analytical experiments have been performed towards the completion of the pavilion, in order to validate the design process.
