summary |
Current CAD systems significantly aid the drafting function and many provide some aid to selected design activities. For the development of mechanical systems, much more can be done. Future systems will aid the interactive engineering process of design, analysis, control, documentation, and manufacturing engineering. Computer based systems which address this broader spectrum of engineering activities are referred to as `Computer Aided Engineering,' or `CAE,' systems. CAE systems will use volumetric techniques to create and evaluate the individual components of a machine design in conjunction with data base management schemas to support the interrelationships of the components of machines. This paper focuses on computer assistance to the engineering of mechanical systems |
