summary |
Few publications on technology are read from start to finish and, where a broad subject is covered, only part of the content is relevant to a particular reader. Facilities such as multimedia and hypertext allow documents from different sources and containing various forms of data to be linked into a report which can be published electronically. Those who access a report, such as Building IT 2005, can then go direct to the topics of particular interest, visit related topics and background data, or search the text for particular terms. The most appropriate medium can be used whether text, data, images or video, and useful material extracted for teaching or research. Actions can be linked back to the papers in which they were recommended so that, while conclusions are presented compactly, the full context and the credentials of the author can be seen. |
