In this paper we develop and describe a qualitative representation scheme for shapes which has the capacity to be utilised in the mappings to the semantics of spaces. The representation is founded on three types of qualitative codes based on landmark values for fundamental shape attributes. Qualitative values for these codes can vary to control the granularity of the representation. Structures in the resultant codings, which are the qualitative representation, can be analyzed to produce generic categories of shape features which provide a connection with "feature-based” models. |
