This paper attempts to identify the nature of creative processes and the relationship of those processes to the automated information processing techniques. Creative processes are characterized in terms of three categories of activity: problem solving, selection and reminding. Intuitive control is identified as a necessary component of any process capable of yielding a creative outcome. The nature of intuitive control is explored. The possibility of automating such control is considered. The implications of the presented characterization of creative processes in relation to the development of fully-automated systems and semi-automated support systems are described |
