summary |
In detail this paper evaluates the technological reality of the potential emergence of a 3D cyberspace. This paper assesses the technology from today’s VRML and Web3D tools to Virtual Reality over gigabits networks. The thesis of this paper is that the technology is very fragmented which will continue for many upcoming years. This evidence suggests that a more compelling vision for the future does not include an ubiquitous cyberspace but a more mixed reality. One that is concurrent: analog and digital. The conclusion of this paper is that this should have implications to how architects and designers should look at the digital phenomena and cyberspace. The digital space should not be viewed as a holistic space but more as part of a more imperfect transition between media and spaces. |
