summary |
This paper investigates new techniques for the production of creative forms in glass by the novel application of robotic incremental sheet forming (ISF) to make steel molds for slumped glass. Also known as single point incremental forming (SPIF), ISF is an industrial fabrication process that uses a robotic arm and end-of-arm tool to press a three-dimensional shape into a sheet material by applying concentrated force along a given toolpath. While precedent exists for architectural assemblies of metal panels formed by ISF, this work proposes an original prototype whereby three-dimensional steel panels are used as formwork for architec- tural glass. |
