C+++: Computation, Culture, and Context – Proceedings of the 11th International Conference of the Arab Society for Computation in Architecture, Art and Design (ASCAAD), University of Petra, Amman, Jordan [Hybrid Conference] 7-9 November 2023, pp. 996-1013. |
summary |
Investigating productivity in the design process by comparing physical and virtual reality modeling constitutes the problem defined by the study, since both mediums grant the interaction between the body and design object. The study, it is aimed to decode the productivity of the early design stages. The study uses the Linkography method and protocol analysis with the think-aloud method for the quantitative measurement and analysis of productivity. In the protocol analysis, the participants, all of them architects, were expected to propose a solution for the architectural design problem, first with a physical model and then with a virtual reality environment, three days apart. The results of the study show that the productivity results in the physical model are higher than the results in the virtual reality modeling. The differences suggest that the medium used in the design processes has a direct impact on the design process and productivity. |
