summary |
The role and importance of computer aided design for industrial design is growing. Computer modeling is increasingly in demand by clients because of the downstream benefits it can bring. The creation and manipulation of three dimensional form is central to an industrial designer during the design and development of new products. The paper addresses industrial design’s relationship with computer aided modeling, particularly three dimensional geometry. Design students and professionals have been observed using current computer aided design applications. Designers’ approaches and attitudes towards computer modeling have been identified. The future impact of computer aided modeling within industrial design activity and subsequent need for change, both in education and professional practice, are highlighted. |
