| summary |
We discuss the use of multiple design representations to enhance decision making at the early stages of design. Our particular interest is in the way in which context can be extended by two interrelated approaches: (1) the incorporation of the temporal; and (2) through the concurrent evaluation of qualitative representations and quantitative information. Outcomes from a practice survey are used to formulate approaches to the use of mixed reality (MR) technology that reflect design-specific modes of working. We propose two approaches – studio MR and site MR – reflecting the distinction between the act of design and the process of a design review. The implementation of a studio MR application and illustrative design project are presented. |
