summary |
This research decomposes the design logic behind the Nakagin Capsule Tower using a newly developed topological approach that codifies and maximises the original design logic into a generative pattern. The study focuses on the configuration of the capsules attached to the shaft. Previous computational studies using genetic algorithms (evolutionary algorithms), cellular automata (finite state machine), and meta-models (parametric semantic representations) have attempted to represent the design logic of the Nakagin Capsule Tower. However, these approaches often misinterpret the original design logic and fail to amplify similar architectural expressions. The primary challenge lies in abstracting this design logic into representational logic. The original design logic is analysed and presented through a syntactic description for reference. This study employs both topological and parametric methods to compare the two representations in a parallel framework, aiming to reveal their fundamental differences. As a result, the represented design logic has been expanded into nine possible design options with an analysis of the original configurations. |
