summary |
CADLINE has abstract only. A knowledge-based system for the design of building envelopes using design prototypes is described. The notion of design prototypes and the architecture of a design system utilizing design prototypes for routine design are presented. Design prototypes are schemas for representing design knowledge comprehensively, providing descriptions of structure, behavior and function, and how these are interrelated to facilitate design. The authors identify the processes associated with such a model of design. The approach is object-centered. Examples are drawn from the building envelope design domain, demonstrating how design prototypes are structured and utilized in routine design. Considerations are given to energy, lighting and acoustic performance |
