This paper describes a specific vision of a sentient building and a specific path to its realization. A sentient building is defined here as one that possesses a representation of its own context, components, systems, and processes. It can autonomously maintain and update this representation, and it can use this representation toward real-time self-regulatory determination of its own state. |
