summary |
This paper proposes changes in architectural education to respond to BIM technology and the resulting complexity in the design concept. We examine the interoperability issues between design and analysis in professional practice. We present the results of a case study mapping the activities of two interdisciplinary student teams in the early design phases of a BIM-enabled project. Results show the problems associated with building simulation tools, core knowledge lacking in architectural education, and the relationship between information management, team process, and the types of tools used. A flexible curricular structure is proposed in architectural education, expanding our professional roles. |
