summary |
The presented research questions the place and role of sensitivity to direct solar radiation in architecture and urbanism past and present. Our main hypothesis is that the relation which societies entertain with solar radiation is a cultural fact which directly influences their symbolic, social and material production, in particular the way they design the architectural and urban environments which they inhabit. In proposing a cultural approach to architecture and urbanism in the sun over time, we aim to show how the built environment reflects and organizes at one and the same time our individual and social relation to solar radiation. |
