The objective of the research is to analyze the psychological evaluation of the spatial representation in the Western paintings to obtain the insights to the reception of the two-dimensional architectural images. The psychological evaluation experiment based on the SD methods was conducted using 15 Western paintings to quantitatively measure the impression of the spatial representation by the viewers. Through the factor analysis and the cluster analysis, it was revealed that the certain types of compositions evoke similar impression and psychological evaluation in the viewers’ mind, regardless of the time period or style. |
