summary |
This paper explores the potential of smart, moveable building components to achieve customized shading, variable privacy properties, and introduce complex visual qualities. The research combines performative design strategies and sustainable design principles, with parametric modelling and digital fabrication, within the contemporary theoretical and cultural context. The focus of this research is on architecture where physical movement is an integral part of the primary functional and formal nature of the building component. With embedded computing using input and output devices, the systems are no longer static but dynamically move and respond. The paper presents several case studies of working prototypes. |
