This paper presents research into the development of a novel self-supporting, lightweight, and transparent polymer 3D-façade component for the integration of organic photovoltaic (OPV) modules into building facades. To explore the integration of organic photovoltaic modules into novel plastic sandwich material systems, using parametric design tools as well as solar and structural simulations were used. Physical prototypes and experiments informed and validated a digital tool chain. In the following sections, we use this research as a case study to reflect on the accessibility and interoperability of low-level visual programming tools and specialized FEM programs. Lastly, lessons learned and pitfalls are discussed and shared. |
