This paper presents preliminary results of a research that seeks to develop an algorithmic model to represent how campus users
interact with one another, as well with the surrounding environment, in order to comprehend the dynamics of activities that can be
correlated to learning in open spaces and thus develop design guidance for such spaces. The hypothesis is that learning activities in
outdoor spaces is also responsible to contribute to the life of the academic purpose of the campus, and that this can then inform design
decisions for such spaces to better support outdoor informal learning. During the research, video recording and interviews were used
to collect data and identify patterns of behavior in three research sites in the University of Melbourne. |
