This paper discusses the potential of digital fabrication for assisting people in building low cost furniture. It is analyzed what motivates people to join the “Do-it-Yourself” culture, and proposes the construction of a desk from reused materials, combined with joints and components that are digitally designed and become available online. Finally, the paper discusses the possibilities of digital fabrication to adapt to a context that is not inserted in the industrial environment and highlights the research potentials to increase the user autonomy. |
