It introduces a dedicated Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) classification, promoting a universal BIM syntax. Amid ecological challenges, the focus shifts to sustainable building practices, highlighting the overlooked potential of horizontal structures like compressive stereotomy in reducing embodied carbon and energy. The study advocates for the use of vaults and arches, proposing a new IfcVault entity within BIM. This entity, alongside IfcVaultVoussoir, defines discrete stereotomic elements, offering a sustainable alternative to carbon-intensive materials like cement and steel. By integrating stereotomic logic within IFC standards, the research aims to improve computational BIM strategies and support sustainable material use in the AEC sector.
