title Structural parametric design for Chilean architecture: Analysis of its potential in a high-seismicity context
source Herrera, Pablo C., Gómez, Paula, Estevez, Alberto T., Torreblanca-Díaz, David A. summary This research addresses a crucial issue in contemporary architecture: applying advanced technologies, such as 3D concrete printing, for housing construction in a seismic environment like Chile. The main challenge is meeting the Chilean seismic design standard, NCh433, which demands structural resistance and stability against earthquakes. The study evaluates whether parametric structural analysis using Karamba3D, a plugin for Rhino/Grasshopper, can satisfy these normative requirements. The methodology includes using Karamba3D to conduct detailed analyses of various geometric configurations and seismic load conditions on a case study and precisely defining materials and loads. The findings demonstrate that through a carefully crafted configuration, Karamba3D successfully meets all the NCh433 requirements and standards, confirming that 3D-printed houses can be designed to withstand seismic events adequately.
